I read a snippet this morning saying that Spain - which has long been a favourite summer holiday destination for Brits seeking booze in the sunshine - is in talks with the EU to try to ensure this Summer Brits will be allowed to holiday there - even though Europe is way behind the UK in terms of vaccination rollout, no foreign travel has yet been approved and talk of a "Covid Passport" is still up in the air.

Their Govt is seeking a travel corridor between the two countries, failing that is looking at Brits travelling to a third country destination first and coming in 'through the back door' from whatever country the EU is allowing in. Thereby sidestepping any restrictions the UK or EU may have in place, which strikes me as a bit slippery.

I understand their desperation - the Brits are renowned for big spending while on holiday compared to the citizens of other EU countries ( who presumably still have unrestricted travel within the EU whilst we, of course, no longer have this right) .... and tourism is a cash cow for Spain.

Personally, I hope this does not come to pass. I'd far sooner see any surplus recreational cash being spent by Brits right here in the UK which may be of benefit to our own crippled entertainment and hospitality sectors and small businesses.

But then, what do I know. I'm just an insular Island Ape - or Inselaffe to give it the correct term
