I'm getting increasingly vexed at both the media and our Govt for announcing, amidst much fanfare, about how well the UK are doing with the vaccination programme.

Just about every GP surgery in the UK offers annual Flu jabs + other preventative jabs.

Why we have to have these 'Super Hubs' bollocks is beyond me. Local level injections seem to have been sidelined - I wonder if the Big stuff offers more opportunity to advertise the magnanimous gesture of party politics.

I'd say "close your curtains" but, apparently that's not essential anymore. Have fun, don't shoot the coffeemaker! ^_^
I'm better than you, but that doesn't mean you're not great! :)

The Pfizer vaccine has to be stored at -94 F. That probably plays a huge role in how it's distributed, as most facilities do not have refrigeration that cold, so they're trying to manage with dry ice, but with a limited production, it would probably be more efficient to keep larger quantities stored together. Once the vaccines are thawed, they only have 120 hours to inject the vaccines before they spoil. The vaccines come in boxes of 25 and 195 vials, and each vial contains 6 doses, so that's 150 or 1170 doses (respectively) that need to be administered within 120 hours.

Sure, you could potentially send boxes of vaccines to smaller locations, but, without the dry ice, if there isn't enough people to administer all the doses within that 120 hours, those vaccines get wasted, and no one gets them. It's something to consider.

Pfizer is not the only "kid" on the block. We also have the Oxford vaccine that only needs a normal fridge temperature, not even in a freezer, so our GP surgeries are perfectly capable of administering that vaccine. Some may say the Pfizer one is better with higher protection %age But as its so delicate and volatile I'd prefer the Oxford one ( given a choice) because I'd be more confidant it hadn't gone off.

Wow those lists of 'essential items' vs 'non-essential items' are bizarre.

How on earth did anyone come up with that, I wonder?

I appreciate the point about the Pfizer vaccine and, presumably (being kind), I'll assume these Super Hubs are being set up in anticipation of supplies of other versions which are less sensitive to temperature fluctuations (which won't actually require their use in any case since the other types can be administered safely, locally).

However, I can't help considering is this just hype train and they will go the way of the much-vaunted 'Nightingale Hospitals', most of which were never used for their intended purpose. Thus, a waste of time, money and resources and a smokescreen to draw attention from the fact that the immunization programme is falling woefully short of the stated timescales.

The powers that be admit that supplies of all the vaccine types are "lumpy". Presumably this has some special significance when used by a Government but I don't know whether this means slightly erratic, very sporadic, or up shit creek without a paddle.

I'd be far more appreciative of information (albeit not so good) that was truthful. But as it's Govt I don't suppose they have the cojones .
