Yeck, I battled that nasty plant two years ago when it tried to take over my privacy fence. And I did not play fare either.

Here isi the mix that I used, and it works well for the little rootlets too.

1/2 gallon white vinegar
1/2 gallon apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup salt
2 tablespoons Dawn dishwashing liquid detergent.

my old neighbors planted it on their side of the fence, and it crept over. I was not happy and declared total warfare on the bindweed aka morning glory. That and I also adopted a scorched earth policy with my weed burner.
Don't ever think the reason I am peaceful is because I do not know how to be violent.

The bindweed I have in my garden is definitely a weed and no-one ( sensible ) would plant it deliberately. It has small white flowers with a pale pink tinge. If it was the garden variety known as morning glory with brilliant blue, purple or pinky red flowers I'd let it grow although I'd still try to prevent it spreading too far.

Yes, that's the sort I have, the non-cultivated white type ^

Where it's growing over the fence from the adjacent woodland I spray it with Calcium hypochlorite (usually used for sterilising swimming pools but is a great weed killer - beware to keep kids/animals clear) and I use that on weeds popping up through the hard paving too.
This clears it for several weeks but it always comes creeping back.

Where it's got into the rockery and borders it's just a war of attrition with constant clearance of any new shoots I find (lots every day, it grows something crazy).

I think I've tried every weedkiller on the planet and it dies back but then pops up again two feet away!

Tried digging down to get the roots but they break so easily and are entangled with other plant roots so Mission Impossible :@

Oh well, could be worse. At least it's not Japanese Knotweed :O

It is a constant battle with the bindweed. Have you tried the neoprene mesh barrier. when I start a new bed, that goes down first, cut slits in it, plant my perennials, then cover with mulch. Don't ever think the reason I am peaceful is because I do not know how to be violent.

Some of our flower beds have weed suppressing membrane on them but the bindweed finds the gaps where the plants are and climbs up using them for support. :@ I suppose it does limit where it can emerge so makes it easier to find. :P

I think my garden, pretty much, is what it is and I won't be starting any new beds. I would consider employing an energetic young gardener though to assist in my weed tribulations, especially if his name was Oliver Mellors.

I've just spent £30+ on crocus bulbs.

Got around 250 bulbs to plant once I get a decent dry day.

These will get 2/3 of my garden covered in crocus flowers in Spring. Just 1/3 of my garden left to plant up and that will be next year.

It's around 30 holes with 8 bulbs in each hole. That should fill up a good patch of my garden. It all ready has a good patch of them. Can't wait till they all grow. :P
