My spring bulbs are starting to flower. I have some tiny daffodils around 4 inches ( 10 cm ) tall, crocus, snowdrops and the early flowering iris reticulata. The larger daffodils are starting to form buds and the tulips are growing leaves. I hope the late snow won't kill them.
Ohhhh forgot about this thread. So much to post about.....
My 3 Gooseberries have green buds on them. So survived the Winter.
4 out of 6 Rhubarb crowns have leaves on and doing well. I have 4 more to plant but will plant them in big tubs and hope they do well.
My Spring bulbs Crocus I planted over the last 4 years did great. Planted over 2,500 or so and have now gone over and not many left. My Snowdrops did better then ever. Out of 300+ planted had about 40 showing. Happy this time just a little light still as I was expecting 100+ showing. I'll keep trying by planting more.
Daffs doing great. Few have flowers on. Tulips doing great too plenty of them showing this year but none with flower just yet.
Also the center of my garden I dug up few years back has lots and lots of daffs and tulips showing this year. Last year was 1 of each and such a disappointment. This years looks much better and can't wait to see the flowers.
Over the weekend I got stuck into my garden. Well say garden it was 4 recycle bins I had in storage I'd never used.
Drilled holes on them for drainage and filled them with compost. Put 1 Rhubabr crown in each pot in the center and then scattered around lots of wild seeds including dwarf sun flowers.
Covered the lot with a nice thick layer of bark chippings to keep in the moisture.
Can't wait for them to grow.
I put the rhubarb in to grow it on for next year. I have or had 6 plants growing. 3 did really well. 3 died. replaced the 3 dead with bigger plants and they still died. Last year I had a plan. Dug out a huge 2 foot by 2 foot hold and dumped the soil and gravel. Filled the hole with horse shit and compost. Planted 3 more rhubarb crowns. They didn't do well lol. Anyway 2 are showing life. 1 yet to do anything. Hence the 4 in tubs incase they dont grow. I can replant them next year.
Can't wait. I love rhubarb.
Gooseberries were trimmed. Looking good.
I feed most of the plants with chicken shit pellets* and some other slow release pellet things.
* Chicken shit pellets STINK. Once I opend them and used 1/2 box I put the rest in kitchen cupboard. OMG the smell after an hour. It's now in an air tight bag in my back storage room.
Sun was out yesterday and it was so nice. Really nice T-Shirt weather for once.
Anyway I clipped and trimmed my roses. Planted a New rose in the place of the old dead 1. Feed them with chicken shit and other goodies. So they get off to a good start. Filled their bases up with more bark chippings. No idea where the others went.....
Noved a tree into the main garden. No idea what the tree is as it grew in a planter I never planted it it. 3 years old now it is and about 4 feet tall. Never seen a flower on it yet. So not a clue what it is. News soon.
Where the tree came out I planted a little bush that should be filled with red flowers. Seems to be called a Spiraea Douglasii. But does not look like the pictures I just Googled lol. Soon see it does look nice though.
Other bushs clipped and trimmed and feed.
Garden was looking good and today when I should have finished it it's pissing it down again. Never 2 good days on the trot.....
Also 3/6 old rhubarb looking good and 4/4 New rhubarb is also looking good. Can't wait. Few weeks it's Crumble time.
