I am not surprised by the verdict at all and I agree with it. Though I had initially thought that he would only have been given the lesser charges by the jury, considering the defense was stronger than I had originally expected.

Regardless, I think that it is unlikely he will be given the full sentence. I understand that Minnesota hands down reduced sentences for first-time offenders, which I believe would be about 15 years max in this case for the highest charge. I could be wrong about some of this info though as law ain't my specialty.

My opinion?

That rarely in the annals of justice have so many people been so uncertain about the outcome of a trial where the guilt was so obvious.

Which says a lot, by itself.

Like many ordinary people I know little of the finer points of Law, particularly that pertaining to a country which I do not live in.

However, having followed this story (and I don't take any of the importance of it away by calling it a story) from when it actually happened - I would say that the verdict was justice.

From what I understand Murder One in the US is described as a calculated and premeditated action. I don't think Chauvin actually planned to murder anyone that day, least of all a specific person. Thus, the lesser degree murder charges would be appropriate.

Because, of course, murder was committed. The man died as a result of actions which could have been ceased at any point, actions which the victim pleaded to be ceased.

Chauvin's treatment of the victim were disproportionate, some might say vindictive and deliberately used to cause maximum pain, discomfort and distress, although I doubt Chauvin (unless mentally unstable) truly intended to kill the victim.

I hope this dreadful case will be a salutary warning and lesson to all law enforcement agencies and their employees to be more mindful of their role, responsibilities and actions.

I was worried there would be another innocent verdict and the US would burn, but it looks like justice was actually served. A murderer is a murderer despite what uniform they wear. May this trend continue. And I swear I'm not going to let her know all the pain I have known

How so?

Chauvin kneeled on the deceased's neck and back for 8-9 minutes despite repeated pleas for him to get off due to difficulty breathing., seizures and a period of non-response.

There were 3 and then 4 Officers present in total who surely could have restrained the victim in a less physically compromising manner, there seems to have been no need to continue kneeling on the man .... but he did.

He ignored all this and thus the victim died. He did, indeed, murder him.

Floyed had fentanyl in his system when he died and that may have contributed to his death, fentanyl strangle 70,000 americans to death every year. the police officer ignored him for too long and that was really bad choice he did that day.
just to get some things in to perspective, fentanyl is around 10,000x stronger than morphine.

but he should not have had a knee on Floyed's neck in the first place
