I think people should stop being racist, and discriminating against a group. Also, stop making implementing unwanted views on people who do not want to hear them. If people can leave people be, as long as they arent hurting eachother, let them be and there wouldnt be a need for an LGBT.

Maybe 5 years ago I would have agreed with you, alas, it is 2017. Now, I cant speak for everywhere in the world, so what I'm about to say comes only from my own observations in my slice of the global pie, but it seems to me that there's really not half as many racist or homophobic people as the alledged victims of such claim there are.

Being 2017, we can never be away from the LGBT advocacy becasue it's a status symbol. Being a victim, female or marginalized group gives you prestige and status now, and the right to demonize straight white men for your problems. Until being a victim stops being trendy, your not gonna get that. And this is coming from a closet-trans gay-leaning bisexual btw...

Well, I am a straight, white male, but I am part of a marginalized group (those with legal disabilities).

The typical response I get when I say that is something to the effect of that I must be a troll, so there really is no convincing people.

No worries, guys!

I really appreciate everyone's opinions and you are more than welcome to debate. But I'd like to remind everyone to keep it civil and respectful. :) I am reading your responses but have been slightly lackadaisical with responding because I've been doing heaps of dancing so I come home tired :P But hopefully, I'll muster the energy to respond to you guys soon!

Thank you everyone! I also appreciate the Greenies for keeping the trolls in line :P

Well that's just redundant.

I think that the difference here is that disabled individuals aren't systematically oppressed the same way that queer people are across the world.

I have yet to hear of disabled people being fired from work for the sole purpose being disabled, and then being unable to sue for discrimination because they are not protected by the law, or disabled people being beheaded in certain parts of the world, or being put in literal concentration camps in the modern day. There's no "conversion therapy" for people with disabilities that are labeled by the wider scientific community as torture, but is still legal.

Yes, disabled individuals are still marginalized, but not to the same degree that we are. But we are creatures of anecdote, so I can't wait to see the responses to this.

I think that LGBT have it OK in developed countries for the most part. It's the developing areas with draconian laws where LGBT are truly oppressed. In many ways I am grateful for the progress society in general has made over the years, something which wouldn't have happened without the highlighting of the LGBT plight. But I fear that pushing any agenda too far, even those with good intent, will only push people away. And this is something that seems to be happening now in the developed areas. Extremism isn't the answer today. We need to work towards a democracy where true equality can be achieved regardless of any grouping.

The point of conversation is to talk 'with' people, not 'at' them. As such, it is important to understand the point you are replying to. You did not.

The point was, being a heterosexual male of European ancestry immediately qualifies one as a member of a marginalized group.

...What is this supposed to be? A "who is more oppressed" pissing contest?

Don't you think that is the apex of idiocracy and completely misses the point?

You're one step closer to the truth.

See Nick, I don't quite think strictly red pill. I lean red pill, yes, but not entirely.

I just think it's silly (to put it lightly) to be saying who is and isn't more oppressed and therefore who has more of an opinion- it's the purest strain of madness and it's how we got to this baneful point in society in the first place.

Instead, the focus SHOULD be on how one can be of service to society- to EVERYBODY, irrespective of whatever quirks they may have.
