As others have said, it stopped being about zombies a long time ago, the real monsters are people like Negan, The Governor etc.
Maybe they should somehow shift the focus back to the zombies for a change once the Negan storyline is done... not sure where it could go though. Mutation? A possible cure?
Who's the cat that won't cop out when there's danger all about?
Yeah, focusing more on the actual problem (the zombies) would be a nice change. Right now every season lately is about them trying to survive an evil group of humans set out to destroy them or make their lives a living hell, using zombies as weapons to get the job done.
The characters look as if they've given up trying to eliminate the zombie problem and are instead just focusing on eliminating the bad people.
If shifting focus back to zombies, they'd need to make them more threatening somehow. I don't know how they'll achieve Negan or Governer levels of intensity, but it's possible it can be done if they think outside the box.

Personally, I like that it has gone from being a relatively clichefest zombie horror show and turned into a deeper story that is focused more around the rebuilding of human civilization and the obstacles that get in the way. Logically, the zombies would already be decayed by the point they're at during the show, but even if they weren't, they'd become less and less of a threat while anarchy becomes the foremost threat to everything.
It's sad that I feel like the only person who gets that nowadays. Everyone just loves to hate on the show because "It's not zombies anymore".

So, episode 9 was....
....pretty much everything I thought it might be.
Doesn't make it great, nor does it make it bad.
Feels like they were trying to ease viewers back into it, and maybe the pace will pick up next week.
- Awwww....Carl wrote letters to lots of people, he really wanted to leave a lasting impression
- And going out the same way Andrea did? He really did grow up
- I wasn't sure Ezekiel would survive, glad he did. I like him
- I guess Morgan finally got the wake-up call he's been needing....but OUCH
