Not really, its stranger when it dosent.
Given that given the amount of royalties that can be gained by the studio's from the sale of character merchandise it makes sense for them to focus largely on properties that have the highest concentration of marketable girls as possible. Its alot harder to sell overpriced PVC figures and body pillows of male characters or ugly chicks to a largely male consumer base.
Plus, anime does typically exist to be wish fulfillment material in some form or other. Makes sense to populate it with the most appealing characters that you can.

Lol. I like to think that im one of the less lecherous people who happens to possess such things. The majority of the more pervy anime related merchandise that I own, most of which I acquired by accident or came as extra's with something else I wanted, live in a box underneath my bed and pretty much only see the light of day when the box gains a new resident.
A word of wisdom. If your ever going to buy things from Japan via a service that purchases the item on your behalf, never tell them 'buy from whichever store you want, I dont really mind' if you can avoid it. Since stores in Japan usually offer different bonus for pre-ordering a game you can end up with lots of different things, which is sort of fun since you dont know what your gonna get till you open the box.
Sometimes you get normal things like artbooks or CDs....and then there's times you get bodypillow covers or bedsheets with topless girls on them.
PS- Apparently 'wish fulfillment' means something different to me then it does to you. Get your mind out of the gutter lol.

Lol, that was in the original message, then I removed it (which must have been when you started typing), then re-added it to make what I meant by it clearer. You should always wait just a little before responding to a post I make, its not uncommon for me to go back and rewrite something.
And yeah I know what you mean about 'some people', there's this one anime news website that I hang out on which is mostly populated by 'those people'. Good source of information for things that ANN wouldn't report on, but some of the people on that site...
