Watched the first episode of Aldnoah Zero and wasn't impressed. Even though it's only the first episode, nothing really drew me into it. I guess the best things about it are the animation, sound and music.

So I basically ignored this season entirely on the build-up, not by choice so much has because I was busy at work and didn't have time to think about it until it hit and I was like 'oh yeah, new season...'. So, this time around I'm going in to every show more or less blind without any premeditation on what will be good and what will be ass.

So far I'm impressed with the seasons offerings, having cleared the first episode of three shows (Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun, Glasslip and Tokyo Ghoul) and liking them all. Now, lets see if the season can continue this good run or if everything from here on out turns out to be a pile of crap (other than the edited reair of Psycho-Pass, of course).

Thoughts and opinions:

Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun: Gonna say that this will likely be my favorite for the season because it's right up my comedic alley with the visual and tsukomi humor. Cute girl seals the deal, hopefully it remains funny.

Glasslip: This is one of those shows that I'm watching more because I'm curious than because I like it. The storytelling makes use of a method that I can only call 'eratic', which is concrete in it's ability to pass information even without remaining fully coherent or linked, which is interesting. Likewise, there is currently NO PLOT to this show at all, only a half-formed suggestion of malice. The combination of unsusual storytelling methods makes me want to know where they are going with this. Also, PA Works = scenery p0rn. Also also, girls in floppy hats, I'm sure those of you who've been here a while know what I mean.

Tokyo Ghoul: The academic in me would say that I'm watching this show for the theme of the struggle of man to fight the beast within, and that's true to an extent, but it's compelling and visceral enough that I don't really need to go down that road. Not amazing nor particularly original, but a way to cure my idle curiosity at any rate.

Also, why have there been so many crappy guns/survival/airsoft shows in recent seasons? One would expect that an anime about a hobby that they love would be a delight, and especially so when theres a sudden surge of them, but in truth it's just painful to watch, because you have to wonder if the creators have so much as a passing impression of the things they are making a show about.

Seriously, when you've participated in a 3am raid on a meeting of 'Al queda' in a semi-legit Afghan village under the red light of star-shells and surrounded by the shrieking jets and flashing lights of a simulated airstrike.... yeah, how do you sum that up in an anime lol.

Three that I'm thinking of specially. That one, Stella Jogakuin Koutou-ka C³-bu, and Upotte (which I know was real firearms but close enough to be valid for critisism). That makes for three such shows in the past two years (which strikes me as still being a tight cluster when you think that's almost one every other season).
