In respect to Anohana, Ive been wondering about that myself.
I guess its probably becasue he isn't entirely sure whether Menma's actually a ghost or just a figment of his imagination. I can understand why he would be edgy about getting that confirmed one way or the other, especially in the presence of others.
I mean, sure, we as the viewer have more or less been given the fact that Menma is infact real (based on the fact that she can operate independently of Jinta) but Jinta dosent have that confirmation, and so even when he witnesses Menma interacting with other people/objects, he cant necessarily be sure what he's experiencing is real.
Imagining that sort of emotion, I think I would be apprehensive about doing anything which might run the risk of breaking the illusion, which could shatter the comfortable 'truth' that i have already come to terms with.
