As a nice to have degradeable equipment should also show their remaining charges and the rate of charges used. If possible show low amounts of charges (<20 % charges remaining) in yellow and critical amounts (<5 %) in orange. Completely discharged items show this value in red. The latter two warnings are also added to the debuff bar. Give information about degradation behaviour.

Perhaps I misunderstand, but are you suggesting that Jagex create a database for all items, abilities and buffs and add detailed descriptions of these things in-game? If that's so, it sounds like it will overcomplicate things and/or cause clutter within the game. Using wiki is not an issue for getting item descriptions, etc.. It doesn't matter that it's 3rd party as long as it's accurate. Even if Jagex does what you're suggesting, people will still have reason to use 3rd party sites for all the other things that aren't covered by this plan.

Hi there and thank you for your input,

my intention is neither to overcomplicate things in here (the style of tooltips would be on the level of what could have been part of a RPG released 20 years ago), nor to make 3rd party sides redundant, as those could provide in-depth analysis for items that wouldn't be fitting at all for an ingame tooltip. 3rd party sides also a great source for describing strategies how to correctly utilize said items (which naturally also doesn't need to be part of what is to be delivered ingame). But - players shouldn't be required to go on a third party side in order to get basic information .

The past years did lots of progress in those terms and I believe we are almost there where the game should be.

Let's take the new cinderbane gloves as an example for this:

Our current ingame tooltip states it is a tier 85 piece of hybrid armour offering 74 armour and a +11 all style bonus

Actually it has those stats, but it has a passive effect additionally, which can only roughly be extracted from the right-click examine - making the gloves look relatively unimpressive on the first sight. As passive effects also are not too common on high levels, players won't automatically assume that it does something special - not to speak of inexperienced players which are the audience of this thread.

The wiki tells us the following about the gloves (as an in-depth analysis):

"They additionally have a passive effect that applies poison to targets while worn. This effect does not apply to poison immune targets. The passive effect remains active for up to 3 minutes after the gloves have been unequipped. This allows the gloves to be used as a switch in conjunction with other pairs of gloves.

If the target is already poisoned, the gloves add a chance for poison hits to refresh the poison effect and dealing an extra hit. This extra hit can do the same and so on, potentially causing a chain of rapid poison hits."

This easily can be shortened to a 'Passive: Applies a poison effect to damaged targets.' - ideally with the strength of the poison for the ingame tooltip.

Potions (and all consumables that have more than just a healing effect) are even a worse issue, as you can't extract any information at all of how they're functioning. Sure some items are somewhat clear by its pure name (e.g. a magic potion will be intuitive enough to tell you it will boost the magic level (but not by which amount - and you will not even be able to extract the amount with the examine text)), but others are not (e.g. what does a guthix rest potion?!). Fun fact: It was the same case for summoning pouches - but those already got some basic tooltips added - they could surely be a bit more elaborate, but they're actually good enough to grant players basic insight - and this is better than no information at all.

Yet another thing are special attacks: When a weapon offers one it tells you a name - and thats it. Playing with the EoC allows you to get concrete information with the special attack ability in the constitution ability book, Legacy doesn't offer any information at all about this. Why not add this directly to the weapon's mouseover as well?

For this Korasi's sword could state a 'Special attack: Perform a reliable magic attack on all enemies around you.' - it isn't significantly longer than a 'Special attack: Disrupt' after all. The special attack ability again should state the concrete name and damage values then for the interested.

Where I have to agree with you are items with extensive amounts of passive effects, including the task armours, the comp cape, the slayer helm (and possibly the attuned crystal armour). I am not totally happy with a right-click check, but I wouldn't know a more elegant solution for those.
