Shîrudo is literally just a borrowing of the English word "Shield." What you're looking for here is a tate (two syllables, tah-tay.) Tate were square shields, similar in shape to the square shields already in game. You don't see tate in pop culture all that often, with the apparent reason being that the people who'd be using them, the samurai, typically favored two-handed weapons like the yari and the katana - and no, a katana is not a one-handed weapon that gets dual-wielded with the wakizashi, the katana was a two-handed sword. The daishô pair exists because the katana's size makes it cumbersome in certain situations, like when you're fighting indoors. All that said, in Runescape, the tetsu katana is a one-handed weapon, so I don't see a real reason why there couldn't be a tetsu tate.

As for two-handed shields...Yeah, no. Unless I'm missing anything (and I may well be!), there's no historical precedent for this - even the famous shield walls like testudo were formed from one-handed shields (the soldiers holding these shields were, for the record, spearmen, but my irritation with Runescape's take on spears and spear design doesn't belong here.) The closest you're gonna get aren't so much shields as they are barricades, and while I'll argue until my fingers bleed for more offensive shield abilities, a 2h shield with 2h abilities would be a solid limit for me. That being said , the concept's there. A 2h weapon that gives you access to shield abilities would be neat. However, in that case I think you run into a balance issue which would need to be addressed.

Yes, every update needs balancing. A similar thing already exists in-game (defenders), so I presume that they could be made to function very similar to that concept/precedent.

It's a very interesting idea. I'm not sure if a stance system is needed -- honestly I think it makes more sense to just have it permanently function pretty much like your Defensive stance except give it weak offensive stats since you could use them to bash or charge -- but the idea of basically pulling out a riot shield to cower behind and help you tank damage at the cost of (almost) any offensive ability while equipped is one I find compelling.

As far as balancing, I think there's an easy solution here; having the 2H Shields be incapable of using Attack, Strength, Ranged, and Magic abilities in Revo/EoC. Using a 2H Shield would basically be going all-in on tanking, and aside from weak auto-attacks you'd only be able to do damage with the handful of Defense abilities that do damage. They'd probably be primarily used as a switch when powerful enemy attacks are in play, or for drawing aggro.

Disallowing 2h shields to use str/attk/range/mage abilities sounds fine at first, but I think you'll find that gaining adrenaline then becomes rather difficult, which is why my idea was to allow them to use said abilities, but just make them deal no damage. (ability damage goes to 0).

Yes - that was one of the intended purposes. To switch in order to survive. Heal more. Tank more. At the expense of dps of course. It also opens up possible proper tank roles for future bosses.
There are limited situations where you actually need a tank atm, because you can face tank most things and therefore dps is prioritized.

I did like the idea of having a cooldown when swapping stances though, because currently, players can so easily switch between roles. Having the cooldown in place makes that more difficult, so players are more set in their roles.

Other suggested abilities.
Basic
Battering Ram - Defensive Variant to Kick and Shock. Stuns opponent and knocks them back 1 square. Does damage based on the shields armor rating

Dig in - player is immune to being knocked back by certain effects for the next 6 seconds (length of time increases based on tier of shield)

Threshold
Breaching - Defensive variant of Stomp and Horror and higher damage than the basic ability.

Refraction - Upgraded version of Resonance. Heals all players in 3x3 area for percentage of the incoming damage of the next incoming damage.

Ultimate -

Shatter Shield - Reduce the defense of the target by 50% and all other legal targets in a 5x5 area by 25% for the next 30 seconds, the player in turn reduces their defense by 50% for 30 seconds (similar to melee's Bezerk)

Dragonfire Shield Variants:
Dragonfire Cannon (range)
Dragonfire Sentinel (Melee)
Dragonfire ... (something cool sounding for Magic)
Requires 2 Visage to make. Same effects as their 1h versions but provided added protection (but not quite 100%) from Dragonbreath.

Spirit:
Spectral Aegis - Hybrid Spirit Shield that requires all 4 Sigils applied to it.
