Some balancing would be needed of course.
If each player does a refraction in rotation, players could be practically immune from damage and get constant heals. Maybe once healed by a refraction, you can't be benefited from another one for a minute (though you can still use resonance).

Also, for group bosses shatter shield would be overpowered I think. Maybe for group bosses, the bosses defence is reduced by 20% or something rather. Only for solo bosses it does 50% defence reduction.

Support because shields were used back not only by police in real world, they were also though used to defend their people back in time when swords and shields from real times history were things being worried about, if you guys ever seen the movie 300, that’s an example of where shields were used as a somewhat 2 handed defensive type of weapon.

My input on your content your trying to get support for though is making sure that the shields actually have something that’ll make them reasonably take place for attacking weapons if not defending weapons, so if you were to make spikes covered shields, I mean that’s not only a defensive wall your holding onto, but it’s got it’s bad side to touch also, it’s like the same way you can’t allow horses to get out of a pen, if you have a field with fencing up, one way their told by the lands not to try and get out is with electric fences lol.
Played RuneScape 2 when it came out a few days ago, that’s also when RuneScape Classic was still playable!

Maybe this could bring on a whole new skill, maybe an elite skill, ment for group bossing/combat. called, Protector it would be kind of like a cleric, healer, sort of, but primarily uses abilities to attract the enemies attacks, force attacks to go to them, or take damage a member of the team would take.

It could add a more another layer to bossing, for the harder ones anyway.

This thread jumped to my mind this morning, and I think I can solve this; 2H shields would probably be allowed to have some exclusive Abilities, like 2H weapons do. This would give them a few more options to gather adrenaline without needing a stance system. It might also not necessarily be a bad idea for there to be another combat ability for shields in general, given how rough of a shape they're in already.

Just a couple of idle ideas:

Charge (any shield, Basic): Dash forward using your Shield to protect yourself.
- Deals 25-125% ability damage.
- Binds for 0.6 seconds per 10 levels of the Shield's tier.
- Target deals 2% per 10 levels of the Shield's tier less damage to you for the duration of the Bind.
- Instantly move within 1 tile of target.
- Clear bound status.
- Mobile perk halves its cooldown to 10 seconds at the cost of gaining no adrenaline.
- Basically a defensive version of Barge.
Immobilize: (2H, Basic): Slam the full weight of your shield down on your opponent's lower extremities.
- Deals 20-100% ability damage.
- Stuns for 1.2 seconds.
- Binds for 5 seconds.
- Shares cooldown with Backhand, Kick, Binding Shot, Impact, Shock, and Demoralise.
Immovable (2H, Ultimate): Enrage your foes into focusing on you.
- In PvE, forces all enemies in a 7x7 radius to attack you for 10 seconds.
- In PvP, enemies provoked by Immovable deal 75% less damage to other targets for 10 seconds.
- Enemies provoked by Immovable deal 50% less damage to you for the duration.
- If enemies are provoked by two players using Immovable, priority is given to the first user.
- De-equipping 2H shield ends the effect immediately
