If it was jagex wouldve banned it by now so jagex themselves have disproven your post.

Nonaction is not the same as approval. If it were bug abuse would not exist, nor would we have thousands of bugs in this game that never get fixed, plenty of which can be abused. By the letter of the rule Alt1 is against the rules. Bob

I agree, it doesn't seem to be a priority. Maybe they plan to do something but havent got round to it yet. They've been quite busy with content releases, so I don't blame them. Bob says:

My response to if Alt1 should be banned: No


Now I will say that my reason is biased, and its just personal experiences and issues that I have when it comes to puzzles and problem something. I can't do it without a guide and/or a solution.

Especially, when it comes to Celtic Knots which I have never been able to learn and still have trouble understanding the concept. I would never be able to finish a clue scroll without Alt1.

The reason why I say that is because it does make clue scrolls a breeze by taking the challenge away from them (Especially when it comes to puzzles).

Even so with some of the challenges and the Celtic Knot or other puzzles, it isn't straightforward how to solve them either or shown me how to.

What challenge? Might I ask? Because, personally, having played this game for a little over 16 years now, I have yet to find the "challenge" in a clue scroll. The solving algorithms are so basic for the puzzle boxes that my brother and I figured them out at the age of 8 and 10 respectively. There is no actual intellectual challenge, as everyone who has the care to open a google tab can find this solving algorithm quite easily. (back to my original point of how this software is a glorified google tab, as it only does things a wiki page can already do for you.)

Unless you consider a time-gate as a "challenge," which it's not; There's nothing challenging about wasting my time. That's like suggesting they removed the challenge from the statue D&D's by removing the weekly time-gate.


Also, a comment to the OP: If you want honest opinions from people, you can't be so readily interjecting your own. When you want to take a poll of people's honest thoughts, you can't fire back with "Well here's why I disagree or agree." the second they give them to you. Because at that point, it no longer looks like you want honest opinions, but rather that you're looking for a confirmation of an opinion you personally hold. Someone hosting a poll needs to be a neutral arbiter, and a neutral arbiter does not interject personal opinions on the matter. Imaging walking into a polling center to vote, and as you're casting your vote, the person overseeing the polling center looks at you and says "really? You're voting for THAT one? What is wrong with you?" All it does is make people less willing to share their thoughts because it no longer looks like a neutral venue. Now with added

My response is 100% just how I feel, I feel like because it gives me the solution and solves some of the puzzles to me that just feels like it is cheating. I only speak for myself given my experiences and mainly, my frustration with the knot puzzles.

It's just a puzzle solver and there's only 2 real puzzles, I just feel like it takes the challenge away from them.

I actually have another reason why I don't think Alt1 should be banned .
Because there are other sites such as the Wiki that also has the solution to other riddles such as maps, anagrams, coordinates.

People have worked together to solve these and leave the answers up there for everyone else if they wish to use it.

I can respect this stance, And I understand how someone can get here.

Personally, I don't see these puzzles as having any sort of challenge beyond the time required to input the answer. As I've said, These puzzles have clear algorithms to solve them, and once learned, these puzzles become less of a challenge and just 3 minutes of clicking to get to the answer you already know is correct. It's a bit like if you were taking a test, and regardless of if you knew the answer or not, your teacher made you sit there and write out the entire alphabet on a sheet of paper before answering each question. After so many times, it just feels like unnecessary time-gating.

Even Jagex knows these puzzles are neither engaging nor fun, as they added ways to just skip them.

I think the main problem with puzzle boxes in particular is how common they are. A few years back, Jagex tried to make clues more valuable, but longer to complete, which really just turned out to be adding a puzzle box at almost every step. I don't think players would be downloading 3rd party software to solve these puzzles if they weren't shoved into 90% of the clue steps on Elites. I have actually had an Elite clue that was 6 steps long, during which I did 7 puzzle boxes; It's not a challenge; it's not fun; it's tedious and makes me not want to engage with the content. I'm sorry you feel that way. The way I see it I'm just part of the debate, just as much as anyone else. Whether I make a point or somebody else makes a point, it shouldn't matter, it's just arguments vs counterarguments. This thread is for everyone, myself included. I can only fight 'my' corner, and its up to others to fight theirs. This thread isn't supposed to emulate a polling station either, we want discussion. I don't think it would be very constructive to limit the topic down to simple yes/no. Bob says:

Yea i fail to see any connection between alt1 and bug abuse.

Its just a helpful app someone made like the oshd or w/e, which later got approved by the jmods.
