tbh last time phats went down was with the release of arch for the reason that ppl wanted to max the skill quickly. so i would say if they add a new skill that is expensive or a new boss maybe thats overpowered but fun to do phats might drop a bit. but its never going back to the old prices like a 6.7b for yellow and 7.1b for a purple if you catch my drift. but ofcourse anything can happen so take my words with a grain of salt and make sure to keep track of all rares on daily/weekly base to find out. thats my honest opinion about it. trusting certain pc lists or prices of items or websites that dont belong to jagex will get you into trouble notice: external websites and trades are your responsibility, dont get fooled!.

Back in 2008 when phats were ‘junk’ it seemed to many people like they’d stay that way forever. But then we had the big swap when they changed places with 3rd age.

To me the unprecedented rise in rares etc in recent years looks unsustainable. But then I don’t really understand the forces driving the economy anymore. I haven’t kept up since EOC.

On the one hand I wonder if the market is secretly propped up by RL traders hoarding rares. But on the other hand, I swear I see just as many people wearing phats as I did 10 years ago. Is that because back then many of the rich players had 1 or 2 phat sets, whereas now most of them only have 1 or 2 phats? So in effect the phats have been spread out among more people?

Prices go up tremendously after the glitches and exploits like we saw now with Duel arena.
People cannot hold their gold into anything else but rares, that is also Jagex's fault for not having anything but shards. There is also natural demand for them but they never went up this drastically.
Not confirmed but from confident sources - One RWT site also bought out like 700 partyhats and they are holding it, around the time when the dupe happened last year.

Another difference in the economy today vs just 2-3 years ago is the general inflation is a lot higher than it used to be, supplies and gear prices are rising like never before. food and potions have doubled in price since arch release. I'm not sure what's causing it but it seems most people attribute it to the ed3 bots.

All of the extra gold has a huge effect on the price of "safe" items like party hats.

Phats are much rarer now than 10 years ago.

I dunno what a fair price is for a phat. Fish masks were hyped, now seem to have fallen a little. But they're up a lot since early last year.

I sold my Red partyhat for 13b to get 120 Arch. My question to anybody is will the price of partyhats ever go back down, or will they keep spiking, and why do they keep going up?

I'm down a good bit. I'd try for a black santa or wreath if you can. They might fall a bit, but I doubt they'll go down much unless more enter the game somehow.

Maybe yellow will be 30b again, or crash like before to whatever the bottom was 22b or something. But that's the lowest I expect to see. I can also see max shard yellows.

Scenario: Miffdor sells his phats to buy tokens. Phat prices collapse.

Anyway, crashes have happened in the past.

What we saw last year was mainly due to

Dupers buying up rares with their printing press.

Covid checks going into buying gold then straight into rares.

Will rares crash?

rare owners - "rares will never crash the supply is low demand is high, with so much gp coming into the game they will rise even more and they are safer then tokens which get re released so often "i told you so".

Don't own/left out- "Rares are overvalued it's just a few trading between themselves and manipulating prices so they can rwt. Rares will crash these prices are unsustainable there's no real demand and inflation is not as bad merchers like to make it to justify their prices"
