This is a thread to discuss the impact some of the tokens (referred to as Squeal of Fortune/ Treasure Hunter Limited Rares) that are artificially raised or very high priced now, due to them obtaining a status of being 'rare' or now considered "discontinued' due to sheer lack of communication we have about it from Jagex.

Now, these tokens are cosmetic items that were obtained mainly due to MTX or limited time event, and some of these events/MTX promotions can be reoccuring, but there are also tokens, which aren't. This is where it gets murky.
To add to this issue, are groups of players motivated upon preying on unsuspected players, and running pyramid schemes or scams with ambiguity surrounding tokens.

The blame for this lies not only with players that may be manipulating these tokens or not, but more so with the way the entire scene is shrouded in mystery of what Jagex's stance and plans are in regards to these cosmetic MTX items that shouldn't even have any impact on economy whatsoever.

I believe, these are the questions we should seek answers for from Jagex, to have more clarity around them, for the community.

1) Did you make these Squeal of Fortune/ Treasure Hunter Limited tokens, rare and tradeable on purpose?

2) IF the intention wasn't to make them one day become rare, too high valued or considered discontinued, and they are 'accidental rares', do you have any plans now how to tackle this?

3) Are there any Squeal of Fortune/ Treasure Hunter Limited tokens that are now confirmed discontinued, despite not being part of the official discontinued list, and if not, are there any plans in pipeline to release them again?


This category of tokens in particular has bred an underground community and FCs that are doing pretty much everything that could be counted against the spirit of the game. To get more communication around these questions would fix the speculation around what they're worth.

I am not suggesting what Jagex should or shouldn't do with the ultimate fate of these tokens. It is for Jagex to decide, but we need to seek clarity on their stance on this matter, and if they are even aware of this being an issue.


What this thread is for -

1) Discuss community standpoint around the questions raised in this thread.
2) Discuss whether this should have even been a tradeable category in first place.
3) Discussions around how we can make this category more transparent.
4) Asking for release or non-release of tokens.


What this thread is not for -

1) Naming and shaming, or any kind of flame. If this thread motivates you to flame me, for whatever reason, please pm me whatever horrible things you'd like to say to me, and I will try my best to hear you with empathy, but keep this thread clean.
2) Price checking
3) Rants about prices of certain tokens.
4) Discussions and opinions about rarity and value of certain tokens.

Pointless thread tbh, same topic has been don eover and over and over again for so many years in a row.

Whenever some tokens go up in price, someone just puts a out a thread like this in attempt to claw back into the market cause they either had no faith in it, sold out early, or were too late to jump on it.

The market works the same for tokens as it does for discontinued items. Some tokens are discontinued, What do you think will happen if some players who have money decide to buy them up or the supply is restricted. Even the tokens no ones gives a shit about will go up in price eventually. It's the same concept for Rares. Look at the rares no one cares about like edibles. only reason they are so high is because their supply is so low.

Nice reading comprehension. I don't care about the prices, nor have I ever been in the token market, so move along, or use pm for personal flame.

I care about the questions raised, if you decide to actually read the thread someday.

tbh i think this is something only jatex can verify or help out with,

My own opinion is that having some other kind of rares besides the discontinued items would be fun but not if those prices skyrocket without any legitimate reason. trusting certain pc lists or prices of items or websites that dont belong to jagex will get you into trouble notice: external websites and trades are your responsibility, dont get fooled!.

There's a reason why Jagex makes recolours of these rare tokens (gems>shadow gems). They don't want to re-release them because they feel like they might upset some players, so they are just making re-colors.

The token market is indeed weird, and we have so many of them now, and some are even considered worthless.
