I was enjoying not having retro skins being added to the game. They're an absolute
eyesore
, only added to sate nostalgia that can (mostly) be sated by OSRS.
I wouldn't have a problem with retro overrides if, and only if, they were updated with a modern texture and model but BASED off of the older look. For example, the wizard-based Yak Track did a great job with this: it gave us skins that evoked the style/vibe of the older wizard outfits and weaponry, but with modern textures and models. That, I certainly don't have any problem with, because it actually fits in the modern style of this game.
However, most 'retro overrides' are a literal direct port of the old model and old textures which ends up sticking out and looking absolutely ridiculous in the modern game. It's bad enough a lot of areas in the members' game world look like this. When you see someone wearing a crude model with flat textures in one of the modern game spaces, it's only awful for immersion but it just looks... terrible.
Please Jagex, either cancel the retro skin update (and never use the player polls feature again; I had hopes we'd never see it return) or if you insist on doing this, make sure that these retro skins are only retro THEMED rather than a direct port of the old model with its original textures.

If players want to look bad, let them look bad then.
I don't think retro skins matter at all anyway. We have plenty of retro cosmetics for a very long time already but how often have you seen anybody using them in RS3? To be extremely honest, I haven't seen anybody overriding their gear with whip and dragon item skins since 2008.
It is incredibly obvious even old school players don't really like retro skins, or else what are they dying their whips and retro skins? Don't tell us dyes are retro items.
If it were my decision, I'd certainly prefer the RS3 developers to focus their talents and creativity on graphical upgrades instead of downgrades. I can only hope this is simply a project to keep the summer interns busy
Never uses treasure hunter keys. Never buys runecoins or bonds. Never pays extra for 'Premier' status or passes. Never will.

Isnt that the point?
Thats why ppl like them as they want old fashioned armors in rs3.
Just because it "ruins your emersion" isnt a reason they shouldnt happen.
I could say the same for a lot of things yet you dont hear me saying they shouldnt happen.
AFAIK, the "retro skins" they are making are going to be NEW and have NEW looks. We already have NEW retro themed items recently, for instance, from Yak to Basics. They definitely are not even remotely related to OSRS. Neither are they downgrade or upgrade to present and future time RS3 items. What's the problem?
I agree that they ultimately don't matter and that there are loads of other tings that need to be updated but that's not the point I'm making. I'm saying that it's a bad idea for Jagex to literally and intentionally put outdated graphics back INTO RS, especially when we have this artistic identity crisis already. RS badly needs a touchup in some areas and to existing character gear; adding retro skins back to the game is a leap backward.
Agreed. This is a waste of time and resources to sate a crowd that could get their nostalgia fix, I don't know, by actually playing the nostalgia-driven version of the game?
This is objective. People can have preference all they want but the old models are OBJECTIVELY bad by comparison to modern ones. Game Design 101: you need a consistent art style for the sake of immersion and to attract people to try your game. Adding inconsistent, outdated models back to the game for the sake of nostalgia (especially when we have a separate game for said nostalgia) is a downright terrible idea.
Yes, it does impact my gameplay when I'm trying to immerse myself into the game world. If I'm just bankstanding or skilling, sure, it's no big deal but when I'm immersing myself into personal roleplay during quests or whatever, it is an eyesore and an immersion breaker.
And it doesn't matter if YOU don't want to voice your opinion on stuff like this, we all have that right. That's what forums are for: discussion.
You didn't read my original post. I made mention of those Yak Track cosmetics. I hate Yak Tracks with a fiery passion but I really like what they did with retro-themed cosmetics. I have no issue with those, just with retro cosmetics that literally port old models back into the game.

???
How does it break you "emersion" when doing a quest?
Unless you quest with others the only overrides, if you wear any at all, you see are yours.

This is particularly true with new quests. When I'm roaming environments that are visually appealing and consistent in art style, then see someone wearing a retro rune plate, it takes me out of the moment, ergo broken immersion.
