Whats the point if scaling up a world that people use fast travel methods to move around to begin with.

^This is exactly why RS should be scaled up! yes people should have the option to move around the world quickly if they wanted to, but having a large world just allows more space for creative ideas! Some people might actually think, I think I will walk instead, it will be more rewarding, then things simply need to happen on that walk to make it more rewarding!

With the release of the Broken Home mansion, it's clear why upscaling is awesome.
How immersive is that building!?

It's big, it's huge, well actually it's not big or huge. It's perfect! It feels like a proper building.

^ Yes, that mansion is a great example of what the graphics/environmental teams can achieve if they have the room. But that it just one building. Imagine the size if Varrock was developed to the same degree! (I'm not suggesting that it should, but just think what the developers could achieve if they could develop these places without the size restriction.)

But with adding that mansion, we also lost something. Now there is one more piece of development, one more building, one more feature in the ever expanding Runescape conurbation. The environment itself is gradually being eroded. How much longer before you can walk from Falador to Lumbridge to Varrock and beyond without seeing a single tree or bush or open space separating the locations? How long before it ends up as just one big town, lacking any sense of separation and individual identity? (I admit this is an extreme view, and will take many years to get there, but this is the direction the game is heading in. Better to scale up now before it becomes an insurmountable problem.)
–= MEGA Construction Rework =–

Freeform Buildings, Surface World Plots, Community Involvement, Environments, Skills and much, much more...!

They should maybe do something, like what Skyrim does for example.

If you travel to a city, you can see the city from the outside walls, but once you enter the walls, you are pretty much in an instance. The city area inside is actually different and much bigger than when you viewed it from the outside. It is to make the city feel bigger than it already is.

Jagex should do something like this.

Pretty much every city rs RS is surrounded by walls. Let us focus on these certain cities, Varrock, Falador, Ardounge, Yanille, etc.

Take these cities, and seal up the walls.

Now when a player enters the city itself, or even teleports in, they are in the instance of the city shared by other players in the same world obviously, or they can even have an option where multiple worlds are sharing the same instance. So a player in Varrock in world 2 can see a player in Varrock who is in world 1.

So now with these instanced cities, you have a much bigger room to create the city and make it look realistic. Add houses here and there, add residences, add people, children, shops, etc. Varrock is supposed to be a city where there are lots of shops, a busy city with a lot of people...

Doesn't seem like it at all.
This is a dying game. Everything about it is just gaining XP and levels for a stupid cape, it's not about the unlocks. The skills are broken, combat system is dull and repetitive. And the MTX...lol.

I like your general thinking, Priffdinas does this. Then again, the combining part wouldn't work.

Yet I think the only way that scaling up for RS will work is making the actual footprint of the city larger too.

And with that the distances traveled.

I am currently working on a personal project.

I am recreating the entire city of Varrock. I am using the game MineCraft to design the city, the layout, buildings, and everything else.

Basically, this new Varrock is much bigger as compared to the Varrock we have in-game. I am enlarging the castle, and I am combining Varrock Square with the Grand Exchange, with a grand fountain in the middle, etc.

I have added Thessalia's clothes shop, the sword shop, the General Store, and the Blue Moon Inn.

Looking good so far. I'll probably post pics on Reddit or make vids on YouTube if y'all want.

We have to smash this idea into jagex through runelabs :D
a scaled up RS,with the new interface, untility updates, improving lore, new client etc will really be worth calling "Runescape 3-your greatest adventure"......well,almost.

Scaling up the world, as various people have described and suggested in this thread would be a huge project - not only would it require a complete redrawing and designing of the whole world but it would have enormous knock on effects to the balance and economics of the world. As such it is highly unlikely to be something we would work on in the foreseeable future*

Do it anyway, priority #1

As A person with a questcape, who normaly can't wait for new quests:
I gladly give up 1 year of content (any game updates, asside from ninja fixes) for this piece of content, when i enter html5 i feel like i'm in a snow globe version of the world, i shoudn't be able to see the other side of a ocean, yet i do

Me too I'd have a dry year just to get it upscaled
