I wouldn't worry so much about inventory as much as utility, these new Familiars should not be insane Summoning exp/h imo.

As far as locking them behind PvM.. meh.
I'd still prefer mini/quest locks, it would allow for JaGEx TIME & FLEXIBILITY in release date as well as lore.
1. Combat won't work with Skilling Familiars.
2. Would avoid "..But..but.. they already have 120 summon!!"
3. Extra work & accomplishments.
4. Want the Summon? ..Go get it! (..or don't, we're not forcing you.)

I didn't really consider skilling familiars since I didn't have any ideas on how a BiS/OP skilling familiar would be like.
-
I believe that a Skilling Familiar that could produce .25/.33/.5 of the Summoner could be considered OP.. then again we are talking about 120¿?

I think if we were to have some high level skilling familiar, it should do more than just flat boost xp or items gained, it should offer something different. Something akin to light creatures.

-Celestial Presence-
Animation(s): Free-floating orbs/mist around player ..used magical sources glowing brightest.
Mage: Supplies catalytic runes during its exsistance.
Source: M.T.A. (tert bought with pizazz.)

Scroll: Maji- Finds your targets elemental weakness & casts a spell in that category according to Summons level.

Was mentioned as a base rate... wouldn't want the new stuff to arrive D.o.A. would we?
Anyhwoo.. seems that WE may still be squabbling over percentage(s) &/or niche use(s).
I crave extraordinary.

I'm going to have to hard disagree on catalytic runes. Nats are 400+, souls 600+, blood almost 700, laws 700.

This would have a huge impact on the prices on runes and skillers are already lacking in variety of money making methods, lets not ruin more.

The spec though, I can get behind that.

Yea, I get that, I just think that flat xp boost is boring af. The familiar can have a different passive that actually interacts with gameplay, which would then increase the xp/h through interactive gameplay rather than flat xp boost.

Back in the day, when I had the time for meta-gaming, I was all over the concept of levelling skills to 120.

At the present time, as I don't have time to meta-game, my feelings on 120 Summoning is "meh" -- but still, if you're going to push the envelope here, why don't we add an extra dimension to summoning and include "Necromancy", as a subcategory -- in much the same way as "Lunar" and "Ancients" has been included in Magic and Prayer?

There is a huge list of undead-monster-familiars that can be added to the base of summoning, and they can bolster and assist players accordingly.

We could also add Necromancy through a Zarosian or Sliskean quest in the same manner that Ancients and Lunar Magicks were added.

The possibilities are endless, and Necromancy can add lore and a coolness factor to the skill in many ways that will make it a lot of fun to learn …

[edit]
Adding such monsters into the game would be fairly easy -- the sub-component would be either bones or ashes, which would require some people to sort out their auto-burying settings, but it would be worth it.
[/edit]

Anyways, I'm sorry is this idea has already been suggested, but I've scrolled through the 30-odd pages and looked for this reference, and I have not been able to find any previous reference to it.
We get so strange across the border ...

No, the idea has not been mentioned yet, thanks for bringing it up!

Just like curses and lunars, this could really diversify the skill. However, it needs to be more than just skeletal re-skins of existing familiars. It should have brand new passives and specs, maybe even different mechanics to summoning the familiar or creating the pouches (if they're even going to be summoned with pouches).

I think one way to really spice things up is necromancy on-the-fly. What I mean by that is reanimating recently slain foes. Would actually be pretty cool to use it in places like ED where you mow down mobs and reanimate them to fight for you.

The idea for Necromancy had been tossed around in recent past for an Elite Skill..
-
From RS wiki:
'Malignius is one of the few NPCs that can summon creatures, though if you speak to him about it, he will tell you that necromancy has nothing to do with Summoning. He also mentions that Wizard Grayzag, Invrigar the Necromancer, Sithik Ints and Melzar the Mad are, or were, necromancers..'
-
Probably why he/others suck at Necromancy?
-Train this guy to Slay. (Need some corpses?..fresher could be better?)
-Train his Magic skill. (He and his apprentices haven't learnt to teleport in a decade or more?)
-Train his SUMMONING. (Contrary to HIS belief ..Summoning may have more to do with his art than he thinks?)

Which could play into a very interesting mash-up..
You could have him deal with leveling himself to be a better ma.. Necromancer.
And the player would reap the benefit of his more-often-than-not stinky subordinates..

Possible dialogue(s):
Player: Good Guthix! ..You smell like an aberrant spectre!
"I've been working with SKELETONS and they don't stink.."
Player: Lies!! ..I've got an appointment for YOU with the
Makeover Mage, incense burners from my PoH & a pink skirt.
"..."
-
"Mmpff mmm mmffff mmm mmmmmm!!"
Player: Slayer helmet ..can't hear you..
"Mhph."
-
"Don't dig ghosts..."
Player: Why not.. They're deceased aren't they?
"Super-dead.. all they really do is throw stuff at you."

- Note the pizazz purchase for tert?
I would expect JaGEx to balance QoL maging/time/economics, wouldn't hurt RC'ers a bit.

Flat boosts: Really are boring I agree, but neccessary.
-Analogy-
Think of them as rhythm of a song, it's a must, what you do with the rest is what makes music.
