@Daryan3

Jagex feels the same way you do - but I don't know that all of those suggestions, some of which are very realistic possibilities - are all going to be received particularly well.

In the event that the Wilderness experiences Freneskae's lightning as area-of-effect damaging situation, it would probably need to be contained to certain areas (like the occasional lava bursts around the Chaos Temple) so as to not force skillers to sacrifice inventory slots they may need for gathering skills.

The Zarosian elemental effects are both relevant (Forinthry was a Zarosian city before Zamorak laid waste to it), and harken back to Pkers of the past who used Ancient Magicks - but those would probably be better suited attached to an NPC that roams like the Revenants did - and probably would be better served to emulate a Pker partially as a threat players can topple or flee from rather than an environmental danger. The best implementation of these "pseudo-Pkers"? Probably Wilderness bosses similar to OSRS. There's a good chance this may happen to some degree, as the much lesser talked about attribute of the new Wilderness is its PvM focus.

Certainly not opposed to quests of course, but questing is perhaps more popular than Pking alone, as most players are probably spacebar warriors. Again, I -think- Jagex has something in the works here though!

Jagex is certainly taking a gamble by asserting that they want to preserve the danger of the Wilderness (especially by making it more of a presence than the roaming revenants were) - especially by allowing players to opt-in to PvP on top of it.

Overtly annoying environmental affects would prove to make an already disastrous PvP scene due to being not-user-friendly as far as systems are concerned into a full blown luck-fest, where something like a lightning bolt out of nowhere could influence a fight.

Get overzealous with making the Wilderness generally cumbersome, and everyone loses.

There's two major points of interest involving existing Wilderness content in the Developer Blog introducing the Art Team that was recently released - one involving how the art team has gone about dealing with the content that is already in the area, and another in how they are working alongside the team responsible for..."PvP ruleset changes."

First thing of importance to note, is that the art team did not want to remove any existing content in the game but did want to replace all the assets with ones you would expect in a new area. The map will be largely familiar as a result, but all the set dressings will be modern. The bigger positive here, is that your clue scroll locations, quest locations, and hopefully things like Warband camp locations, would be where you expect them to be but look new.

The second thing is that this Wilderness update might -genuinely- be a decisive shift to how PvP works there, and not just a flag system that leaves players with a choice to opt in or out.

This could be as simple as fixing skull-tricking and eliminating action-stalls or whatnot to prevent luring, to reworking the death mechanics in the area entirely, which would either make PvP more enjoyable if done right, or effectively "kill the Wilderness" as a PvP area if done wrong.

I look forward to seeing Jagex elaborate on this more from sources more closely involved with the PvP itself. Perhaps PvP is getting the attention it needs after all.

After watching the Legacy of Zamorak deep dive livestream last Saturday, there's some new information that does warrant a bump on this thread, and this time I wanted to frankly grade Jagex as to whether or not my concerns were addressed and dole out praise where it should be doled out. We'll go with the three points on my opening posts.

Has Jagex made a renewed commitment to the PvP community regarding content tailored to their intrests going forward?

No, but it is too early to be upset and there are possibly even good signs.
We all need to be reminded that RuneScape's in-game lore is what dictates the update cycle, and the big Zamorak as the final boss arc only has the Twilight of the Gods quest in-game and we're still a few days out from Zammy's arrival, with the Wilderness stuff scheduled this fall with more to come regarding it at the back end of the year. When this update drops, it will, unfortunately, result in a net negative for PvP in the Wilderness as there will be somewhat less usual targets who actually opt-in (although initially there may be a small interest in seeing what it's like!). However, we should watch this more closely as the year goes on.

Has Jagex done what is necessary to preserve the experience of content that stimulates or is built around the concept of PvP scenarios?

Pleasantly surprised to say, but they have if Mod Jack is to be believed.
Wilderness Warbands will still force players to opt-in to PvP in order for players to claim xp or coins from the tents. Demonic Skulls may see some balance changes regarding costs, but Mod Jack indicated that they will remain as incentive to opt-in to PvP despite the fact that there is now an additional threat from monsters to contend with. There was no word on the Hellfire Bow.

Will Jagex keep players in the loop about the Wilderness update?

Check the newspost for the many Legacy of Zamorak bits.

Hey Knight!

I......don't hate it.

The update delivered on exactly what was promised back in April, and most issues I've found with the update on release have been addressed in more recent patch notes batches. It's going to be a decent place for spicier Slayer, and you can still fight other players in the Wilderness if you want to - including engaging in similar hunter-vs-hunted "peripheral" PvP content if killing isn't your style but your fellow players don't scare you.

Everything I wanted to remain intact ended up remaining intact.

Now, did this hurt PvP? Maybe only minor damage if anything - but I don't think it helped.

Personally, I think Jagex should absolutely address PvP in general very strongly in the future - and while "Pking" is a familiar enjoyable pastime for some and an very large annoyance for many, Jagex can start by properly differentiating between PvPers and Pkers.

After all, Player Killers still have targets, even those who probably have less ability to match them in combat. There's a significant amount of room however for more competitive PvP.

I had opted out of PVP when the new Wild update/rework happened. I have been playing this game for years and have given up on doing anything in the wild. As a pvm only player, it made no sense to me to do anything in the wild, afraid someone was going to spring to their feet from behind a rock, that had the ability to conceal him/her self and stab me in the back as I ran by and steal everything I worked hard to get. When the rework happened and I was able to opt out, I did so... But today I popped into the wild and was instantly skulled and couldn't figure out why? Before the outage this didn't happen. It was only after asking a clan member why the change that they informed me to opt out again to be sure I was not opt-in to pvp status. Is this something I am going to have to do ( Talk to Vala ) every day/month to be sure I'm not killed and robbed in the wild unexpectedly?

>*< Question >*<
Did Jagex change hazard timer in the wild, last time visited, I went from threat lvl 0 to threat lvl 3 in under 5 minutes??

If you do anything that puts you in PVP (Using the skull, picking up the bow, probably wildy warbands, etc.) It opts you in and you have to manually opt back out. Once opted out, you're opted out till you opt back in manually or by doing an activity that opts you in.

Timer is based on what you're doing. Can go up quickly or slowly, just depending. Depending on your gear and levels, it really doesn't mean much of anything tho tbh. My FSW account gets absolutely ganked but my main, even when I'm running with 0 gear, is perfectly fine lol
