Will this impact the price of the various bones that are in the game, I wonder?
Might be time to put your bonecrushers away and start stockpiling.
A good question, though sadly one that we most likely won't get an answer to until closer to the skill's release.
It seems like a safe assumption that the existing types of bones will serve
some
purpose with Necromancy, but I personally expect that the bulk of resources we're going to need for Necromancy don't exist yet; the past few skills we've gotten have mostly relied on new items. And if we were to assume that RS3's take on Necromancy will borrow anything from OSRS's Arceuus spellbook, it's likely that we'll need to gather all-new monster parts like heads, soul fragments, etc.
Still, it probably wouldn't hurt to keep some bones on standby, just in case. Hopefully we'll get a more definitive answer sometime in January.
With the teaser font being purple & cyan, I reckon it'll have something to do with anima (light & dark) or be to do with Zaros & Seren (plus that 'Iaia' time-travel area, ya know...)
The runes on the font point to Erabus, right? I read that 'mirror' artefact is supposedly in there (which can make copies of things). That sounds like it could be connected?
There's a bunch of other things I noticed too. The most recent dig-site we got in senntisten, there's 5x funeral urns that if you examine read something like "it would guide the spirit to Erebus". So I'm thinking it'll be more about souls / spirits than physical items like bones. That said, it might not hurt to have a few bones ready for that Fort Forinthry (chapel).
I also had a quick watch of Protox video on Necromancy from 3 years ago, some interesting ideas in there. They suggested that runes have their own corrupted versions (or something).
I'm hoping that we collect souls of creatures we slay, and then get a choice of resurrecting them for good or evil. Eg: gather the soul of a scorpion for increased poison damage (or something along those lines), hill giant soul: increase crush weapon damage, etc. It'd be nice to summon creatures to help with skilling too, but my imagination is lacking on that front.
I guess they could categorise creatures into things like 'earth, fire, water, air' and have them work like - fire soul: benefits smithing, etc. I don't know... I just hope its not 100% combat.

I feel like this skill could've just simply fit into a magic spell
. I really hope there's alot of content that we have yet to see to it that makes it diverse; necessary as a skill.

Necromancy is definitely a long lost Ancient art, not hard to imagine the new skill will have Zarosian/Seren and perhaps Dragonkin heritage, especially we already know Shadow, Smoke, Blood and Ice aren't the only Ancient elements. We know there is at least one more...
No more information to be given until next year (January 9th) when death rework hits.
Expect something like letters from Professor Tony in the pre-Archaeology developer blogs starting January 9. We won't know head or tail of the new skill but it brings out the interesting lore.
Crazy idea here. We ex World Guardians already know a bunch of dead people. Maybe it will be like summoning, but we'll call a fallen ally and level them up? Like temple trekking but we call on Xenia or a Barrows Brother?
I like that idea! I had hoped summoning would be like that (pokemon esq) alas...
My prediction is that it'll revolve around temporary buffs, the timer on them increasing as we level. That last quest we did in Erebus would connect it since we couldn't stay in there long.
I get lord of the rings vibes, like when Frodo enters the spirit world after putting on the ring.

Sort of along the lines of the Academy of Heroes TH promo, but with an actual in-game application. I like it.
Perhaps more skilled Necromancers could call forth allies who would be more powerful, or who had been dead for a longer period of time. Maybe these allies would be more cooperative to those with higher Necromancy levels.
I've been putting out fire with gasoline!
