I must say that recently I feel that there has been a lack of quests that have been released into the game.
Quests fuel the story of RuneScape and therefore are the backbone of the game.

After a 5-month break from the game, I was relatively disappointed to see that there was only one new Intermediate quest that had been added (Evil Dave's Big Day Out).

Yes, there is a new quest coming out at the end of March but that will be 4 months since the last quest release which I feel is too long a wait for a new quest release. How are we ever going to finish the storylines currently in the game if quests are only going to be released once every 4 months?... We seem to be getting lots of Slayer monsters (like the Unspeakable Horrors) and new areas (like the Lost Grove) but no new quests. Surely, there could have been a quest about the Lost Grove when it was released for example?

We only got a total of 6 quests released throughout the whole year of 2017. Yet, in 2012, we got 12 new quests that were released plus remakes of Death Plateau, Wolf Whistle, and Druidic Ritual. Considering that we are almost at the end of March and no new quest has been released, I fear the same fate for the number of quests we're going to get in 2018.

There seems to have been a slow decline in the number of quests that are being released over the past few years and as much as certain players don't enjoy doing them, no matter how you look at it, they are the backbone of the game as they provide the game with much-needed storylines. They are very important to the game. Imagine a console game without a storyline and just a load of random achievements to complete... It wouldn't really be classed as a great game, to be honest.

The complaint is common enough. Mod Osborne points out that quests have increased in quality and length over the years (quality over quantity), even with the cost of translations into German, Portuguese and French. He also pointed out that miniquests, lore books and other story content don't get appreciated as much because they're not labelled as quests.

There is player feedback (big surveys) to take into consideration. Many players will say they want even more slayer creatures and bosses.

There's the argument that quests can only be completed once, while other updates can be played infinitely.

There's the shift away from expansion updates, which threw off the 2017 update schedule.

Hopefully Jagex moves to the one-quest-per-two-months plan, but they can never really have enough quests.
Unified clan is my ohana. (:

As much as new areas and new mechanics are a great addition to quests, I don't believe that they are necessary for a good quest. Look at Evil Dave's Big Day Out. A good humorous quest which didn't really go to many new areas.

If some entertaining storylines could be thought up in places that are already existent in the game, it would sort the fact that quests all need to be about new areas and mechanics and help the development time problem too.

If it's lore you want, then just read like a runescape book or something. Jagex pays their employees to code real stuff to combat issues in the game. Typing in sentences for stories is an English major job.

The lore is great, yes. But I'm not searching for 5000 words of impeccable English in every quest. You don't need a degree in English to write a good storyline. Take While Guthix Sleeps and Ritual of the Mahjarrat for example.

I very strongly agree with the quality over quantity philosophy in this circumstance. I'd rather have a handful of really good quests released as opposed to many plain/basic quests.

Of course, I see your point and agree that they need to be of a certain quality, however, the 9 quests released in 2011 (Including Ritual of the Mahjarrat) were all of great quality and didn't feel rushed at all, to me at least. We are nearly 4 months into 2018 and we have 1 quest coming out... It feels to me like there is a major lack of them.

The Menaphos quests felt a bit rushed and I found that disappointing considering they were 4 out of the 6 quests released last year.
