It's been mentioned before, but I don't think we've received a response from Mod Raven on it yet. Would it be possible to break it up into two quests? Based on what we know, it sounds like this would be possible, since the quest starts out as a simple rite of passage, then becomes something much more serious. Could it be split into two quests, one being a smaller, lower-leveled Rite of Passage that then sets up the much bigger quest after it?

Not really no. But I can't say why without horrendous spoilers.

Ideally the quest should be chronologically post endgame. How this actually plays out is another question. Certainly we've had the argument in office multiple times about how important hard locking quests behind quest requirements is.

Realistically the ship has flown for getting a pre-endgame armadyl quest in there. If we were to add one now, most people already know the story of endgame, even if they haven't played it, and it would just sit strangely in the narrative structure (we had this issue with adding in Heart of Stone after the Fate of the Gods. It narratively sits before Fate of the Gods, but because Fate of the Gods had already happened, it didn't reveal anything extra and the plot was lambasted as a result).

So the question is whether to ignore that and try anyway, or acknowledge the way things are and run with it.

There is ONE option if you want a noob quest with minimal dev work:
Nothing but dialogue

No reward.
Player goes to an npc, you get a snott ton of dialogue boxes telling about Armadyl or the Avianese or what ever.
Maybe do a thing or 2 (also simple tech dev stuff).

You could frame it as a great storyteller of the Avianese is wanting to do a practice run before telling the tale to others and the player char gets to be the test audience.

Didn't a few jmods once joke about a quest made up of nothing but dialogue boxes, each with just 1 word (quest would take 20 minutes to space bar thru)?

Don't tempt me.

I would totally do this.

Now that’s interesting and something I didn’t know. In Heart of Stone, you do get the option to tell Xenia that Zaros has a plan IF you completed FOTG. But I didn’t know that HoS was actually supposed to take place BEFORE FotG.

I also thought that HoS had no big reveals and didn’t do much to advance the plot because players didn’t want that. The follow-up polls once Elder Gods won indicated that players didn’t want to meet an Elder God or learn all their deepest secrets, and this was the result.

@A Mighty .... I think you focused on the wrong response ... this IS Mod Raven we're talking about here. (the whole " secret overlord of mankind " and " avatar of Cthulhu " and " fluffer of birds with dark feathers " and living embodiment of all that is 95+% pure evil in the world)
I wouldn't be stunned if Mod Raven was doing the classic same response for 2 statements (ie: Did you break it or not break it? reply = Yes.)

Would be terrifying IF the quest was nothing but the bajillion (approx) dialogue boxes, each with 1 word. Good luck reading thru that.

I don't take anything in this line of conversation re: the troll quest too seriously. Would be a fun troll to do, obviously would be terrible to do as " the Armadyl quest," but as a nebulous concept to troll the people who spacebar quests? Hilarious. (Easy way to beat this: put a weight on the spacebar. Easy way to beat that counter: make it so the player has to actually input a dialogue choice every few dialogue boxes.)

But anyways, a L&H to release alongside the Armadyl/Aviansie/Guardians of Armadyl quest would be just fantastic. I believe at one point Mod Raven had actually started work on such a thing, but I have no idea how far along it got (or if it ever even substantially started at all). There's precedent for this, as we got a L&H about Lord Drakan in the lead-up to the release to The Lord of Vampyrium .

I started working on a Lores and Histories, but I've had a different Lores and Histories story waiting in the aether for a couple of years now, so I concluded that it was probably not worthwhile working on one. ;)

That said, I'd be happy to take a bit of time to write an aviansie lores and histories to release at the same time as RoP if that's what people want. Obviously would depend on scheduling and stuff, and whether I would actually have time, but I had a story about aviansie in the god wars that I would happily revisit.
