Thanks for posting this and keeping it updated. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens in Desparate Measure one day :-)

No problem, my pleasure. I'm looking forward to it, too! I also can't wait to see how it ties into Archaeology, and the upcoming Orthen dig site.

We will get more 2020 Quests, friend, for if Runefest is to be believed then rejoice for this summer three new Quests are due: Desperate Measures, a "City of Senntisten" quest, and one called "the Azzanadra quest".

The miniature quest like nature of Archaeology, along with the Elite dungeons, makes me wonder if Jagex is going to veer away from quests.

Some/most quests have an area dedicated to them, and content stuffed in.
Here, you have pre-built areas.

Some quests have RNG mechanics. The "mysteries" we see for a lot of the dig sites have grindy rng to them.
Some quests have puzzles. A few of the mysteries have puzzles.

I'm not saying these mysteries are quests. Certainly not in the sense of what we are accustomed to seeing. (unless they are trying to do something akin to the "archaelogy quest for the [dig site]" and the entirety of what you do at the digsite (Everlight, Infernal Source) is the "quest".

Mysteries are not quests, even you admitted so. They are
bonus lore based content
which wasn't even previewed in Runefest 2019 and revealed in livestreams before they were about to be released. The announced quests remain: Desperate Measures, the Azzanadra Quest and the City of Senntisten, and none of the Mysteries have much to do with these announced quests. It is certainly not like we will only have only one quest the entire year 2020 in RS3.

ELEMENTAL WORKSHOP V

- Sequel to Elemental Workshop IV
- Will involve the Astral & Nature doors
- Mod Rowley plans to tackle these when he has time
- 2 puzzles have already been prototyped
- No more insanely frustrating puzzles like in EW III, more puzzles along the lines of EW IV
- Will have 2 more sequels: Elemental Workshop VI (involving Law & Death doors) and Elemental Workshop VII (involving Blood & Soul doors), which are already outlined

AZZANADRA QUEST

- Not much is known yet
- Will be tackled by the Desperate Measures team after Desperate Measures is released
- Will be released after the upcoming Elder God Wars Dungeon in Summer 2020

CITY OF SENNTISTEN QUEST

- Not much is known yet
- Will be released before the upcoming Elder God Wars Dungeon in Summer 2020

MERETHIEL QUEST

- It would be about Merethiel's backstory with her siblings and Solak
- Solak apparently wouldn't be a major component of the quest
- It would take place after Erethdor and Solak are separated
- It would be developed by Mod Ramen, if he has the time

This is an interesting point. I've been thinking about this a lot, too. In recent years, we've definitely had an uptick in the diversity of lore content updates (which is a major part of the reason why I made some of the changes to this thread that I made when I took it over). Previously, lore content was virtually exclusively quests. But, in the last few years, lore has been added to the game through many, many other ways.

It's also been known for years that Jagex feels in a tough spot with regard specifically to quests, because they represent months and months (and occasionally over a year) of development time, and simultaneously also only a few hours (at most!) of non-repeatable gameplay (with the exception of Broken Home and Dimension of Disaster, naturally) for each player. And frankly, I get that, it makes sense and it's a valid struggle for a for-profit company to have.

So it would really make sense that, as you said, Jagex is trying to veer away from quests, and towards other more "economic" ways of adding lore to the world of Gielinor. I wish they'd just come out and say it, instead of always making empty promises about more quests, but regardless of whether it's said or not, if it's happening, I do get it.

SIR OWEN II

- A sequel to The Death of Chivalry
- To be developed by Mod Stu
- A plot point will likely revolve around Sir Owen's zombie limb

Some of this quest's lore is being shifted around to other content so as to downsize it.

GNOME VII

- Sequel to The Prisoner of Glouphrie
- Largely written
- May be the finale
- May pick up the story Monkey Madness left hanging
- Will involve going to the city of Arposandra.
- It's considered a piece of content that players "would like to tick off" but not "one that they desperately want"
- It sounds like Jagex has been ticking off "unfinished business" (first Prifddinas, then Menaphos, then effectively Fossil Island) and they're looking to see what major piece of "unfinished business" players rally behind next. They don't estimate it'll be the Gnome Finale & Arposandra.

PENGUIN V

- Sequel to Back to the Freezer
- May be called "Goldflipper"
- May involve the Penguin capital

We have not heard anything new about this quest in several years.

DESERT XIV

- Sequel to 'Phite Club
- May be of Master or Grandmaster difficulty
- May be the finale
- Will likely further tie together the various loose threads across the multiple Desert storylines
- Will likely involve Amascut (the in-game character) in some capacity

So, what exactly is the point of Once Upon a Slime? Is it just there to be silly, or is this going to be a whole quest line and this is just the beginning?

I don't think it's going to be a whole quest line; My assumption is that, well, in your words, it's just there to be silly.

The argument in favor of it and more quests like it is that they're low-budget, and quickly developed (compared to other quests nowadays), so they're easier and could raise the number of quests released a year (which I personally at least am in favor of). The issue is, quests like Once Upon a Slime need to actually do that, and if they're so few and far between and there's few to no other quests being released alongside them (not literally alongside them, but shortly before or after, like say the next month or the previous month), then their whole entire purpose is defeated anyways, and they quickly just become something that makes Jagex look lazy and something that seems like it's meant to say, "Here's your quest, will you shut up now?"
