My time spent in-game continues to decrease. I do my dailies and that's really it. Never before in my nearly 20 years here have I been less motivated to play this once great game. Ultimately, it was never really Jagex or their updates that made this game special.

It was you. Each of you wonderful 'Scapers from around the world who came together to eplore this world of Gielinor together. In between our explorations, we could get together on the RSOF to share details of our amazing victories, our crushing defeats, and our silliest noob moments. Whether we were actively posting, or simply lurking, we could come to the RSOF to learn about new content, suggest game changes, find help with quests, read stories, or just chill with friends. We could discuss lore, find a clan, receive account or technical help, contact other players about buying/selling/trading rare items, and even play forum games.

With the removal of the RSOF, all of that essentially will also be taken away. Third-party social media echo chambers are no worthy replacement for our forums, and never will be.

Do not bother looking for me on those sites. I will not be there. I am on FB, if you know where to find me, but that's it. I hardle ever post to the RS Facebook page. There are no real discussions there - only game promos with random user comments that often have nothing to do with the ad.

Over the years, I have praised Jagex when I thought they deserved it. I have also been critical of the company when I felt that they made a mistake. As far as I am concerned, removing our beloved and historic forums is the stupidest, most boneheaded blunder Jage has ever considered. The original Wildy/Free Trade removal will drop to #2. Sure, Jagex could change their minds - but just like my desire for gametime, my confidence in this company to do right by their players has never been lower.

I saw no mention of the closure of the RSOF in today's newspost. Perhaps Jagex will comment later this week. If they do not, I am thinking one of two possibilities are likely:

- They are quietly going ahead with shutting down the forums, but at least on some level understand many of their longtime players (such as myself) are not happy about their shameful and disrespectful decision.

- They will say they "listened to the players" and decided not to close the RSOF after all, due to overwhelming support for our forums.

In any event, Jagex will not receive any further money from me at all, unless and until the RSOF is allowed to remain.

"But Aslon, you are F2P. You contribute nothing to Jagex."

Wrong, noob.

Some free players buy TH keys and bonds with real world cash. I do not.

What I have bought in the past are pre-paid RS cards - a lot of them. I would purchase these for Kristen and myself, as well as for our friends who also play RS. These fit nicely in birthday and Christmas cards. It has been some time since I last added up all the receipts, but I can tell you I have spent over $2000 as a "free" player. That ends now.

Will my decision bring financial ruin upon Jagex? Of course not. I simply will not support a company that doesn't give a damn about their longtime players or the shared history we have with this game. All they care about is money.

Yes, businesses have to make money. That is NOT the only thing that matters. You also have to do right by your consumers - your existing customers. Jagex forgot about that part.

It's almost hard to believe. No matter what happens IRL I could always come back to RS. A lot of that was being on the forum while 'playing' the game. :p

It won't be the same.

Thanks to everyone who read and wrote on the forum. Was a great thing.

I (and several of my older friends, and YES there are older players on RS) don't have nor want any kind of social media. This was the place to come. It's going to be missed.

But it's all good as I have hardly played any in several months (just getting on to do penguin tour and maybe the occasional dailies is about all i care to do,and even that is getting scarce.) Its just sad how things have gone down hill and no one seems to care. They have player surveys and such but it seems us "normal: players just get ignored.
I read the final chapter........... GOD WINS ! ;)

"Jagex is playing the numbers game at their own peril. Quanity does not equal quality."

Been thinking about this the past few days, as the clock ticks down to death.

Somewhere, in an office responsible for all of this mess, is a little group of people rationalizing the loss of long term customers, some of decades standing, saying "but we'll make it up on volume!" (you know the old joke...)

Add in the Underpants Gnome approach, (1. Bosses, MTX and Bosses. 2. ??? 3. PROFIT!!!) and I have small hope for the future, at least as a comprehensive world populated by all kinds of different people.

Hoping to see some of you all out and about--say hi if you see me (I live on world 60)
