I have been playing Runescape for more than 20 years now and with very few exceptions every single day since I started with a free to play character when the game started in 2001 and then after 2 or 3 years created this character that I still play on every day.
But I have to say that I am beginning to seriously consider stopping with Runescape and what have spawned these thoughts is the way Jagex seems to neglect their own game more and more.
There have still not been any rebalancing of the 3 old combat skills after necromancy arrived
and necromancy is so powerful compared to the old 3 that one might as well just use necromancy for everything,Even with the brand new tier 92 range set and BOLG the damage from range is so bad compared to necromancy and that goes for melee and mage as well.
Allmost every new update is about Bossing,Bossing,Bossing and more Bossing and I hate it.
Now Jagex has made yet again a very bad decision about closing down the official Forums and as one of the older Runescape players(I am 49 years old) the closing of the forums will mean that I can no longer read about recent updates and player responce to them nor can I participate in any discussions about the game that I actually pay to play.
As an older guy it is very hard to switch to other kinds of media and also I can not understand why Jagex chooses to put dialog and information about the game everywhere than on the games actual homepage and forums.
I am one of the Danish players and I happen to know for a fact,that 90% or more of the Danish playerbase is as old and even older than I am and a qualified guess would be that most of the Danish players are 50+ years old and most have been playing for many many years like I have.
And when one get to those ages it simpley becomes harder and harder to keep up with changes.
So even though I still love Runescape and it will hurt me a great deal if I have to stop,I must say that the way the game is going,I might actually quit.

I have bought premier membership ever since it came out. I've used bonds bought from the GE once that became an option. I got my current year's membership last month. Before yearly membership I had a recurring monthly subscrption which pauses while the yearly one is running.
I cancelled the monthly sub last night.
I don't want it to kick in if I stop playing, which is a possibilty. Losing the forums, with all the information in them, may make playing more difficult for me.

edit to add:like the poster above I also don't understand why game information is scattered across several sites and not concentrated on their own site. Its inefficient.

Because, unfortunately, most of the newer generations are lazy. From birth their attention spans have been trained to be as short as possible. Even though they are growing up with better internet than many of us forumers had 20 years ago taking a couple seconds to visit the RS home page is too much work.

I have Facebook and Discord. The Forums are preferable to anything else. Jagex neglects Facebook, Twitter is only good for immediate issues, Reddit is too censored and the active RS players there are the vocal minority of most issues, and I dread the idea of having to use different Discords. It's too chaotic and difficult to preserve single threads there.

I am going to believe the conspiracy theory that Jagex is doing this to hide the game's less superficial but greater problems from their investors / buyers / whatever is going on with the game.

I also believe the removal of the forums is exactly that too, corporate censorship at the highest level. For me it’s more than just that, it is a removal of a service that has been a part of my monthly membership for almost 2 decades.

Not once did I complain about the rising prices, but I am going to complain when things that have been included as a part of the product for this long are being taken away, I have problems with that.

I haven’t decided one way or another if I’m going to cancel my subscription yet, but it’s definitely not looking good. I am not liking Jagex’s attitude or treatment of the community ever since this Hero Pass nonsense and they are clearly showing they haven’t learned.

@Kat same!!!!!!! I actually did quit and cancel membership for many years, and when I returned just short of two years ago I didn't mind the subscription cost being significantly higher. I pay for Premiere with my real life money. Never cared. Mtx I complain more about HOW it's done rather than it existing. Rest assured I hate that it exists but there are ways to compromise on that subject. Jagex needs real life money and inflation is very real. Honestly I'd even pay extra for forums to stick around although I believe that would be a very poor decision if it's an added cost per player vs a crowdfunding thing. Wouldn't be ideal but I know I'd be among the handful who would contribute.

Jagex knows these options exist, which is why I am seeing the deletion as censorship. Sure, it'll be archived elsewhere but simply not being attached to the website is enough to sway investors.

Take a look at the OS newsposts. They normally refer to the forums, reddit, steam and discord. They've silently cut the former for the one released yesterday. Improvements: Tooltip / (F2P) QoL v2
