" no one really uses RSOF anyway. I can guess that fewer than 1 out of 1000 players make use of RSOF, "

Even 1 in 1000 is not "no one" but I suggest its a lot more than that. Maybe among your group of friends that is true but among mine its a lot more.
I read the forums nearly every day and usually post several times a week. Don't forget we don't need to log in to read the forums so the number of people "using" the forums is higher than you think.

I have to agree, Discord certainly has it's uses, and is particularly designed with gamers in mind.

I have an account there. I made it when a real life friend told me about it during lockdown. It really is good to connect players with live chats and voice chats without having to go through a convoluted, in-game system. It's there whether you are playing a game or not, therefore you can use it while playing whatever game you like and still get to chat with other people.

However, it is not a substitute for everything that the RSOF offers. Yes, we have chat lounges here. Yes, we have trading forums here. Yes, we have (had) news updates here. Yes, this can all be performed in Discord.

However, what we can also do here is have in depth discussions on particular updates, suggestions/ideas for improvements, and opinions on how the game is being run. We can also keep track of these conversations over time, and not be afraid to lose the conversation if we don't interact with it within the next few days. We can advertise our clans, and get community support for technical difficulties.

And we can do all this with an account that is tied directly to our RuneScape user.

Discord can offer a lot of stuff, but it can't offer everything we have here. It serves an entirely different function.

Yes, there will be a cost to creating a new forum for the new website. In the grand scheme of things though, do you really think it will cost more to host the forums than a server the game currently runs on? Surely if cost cutting was at the heart of this, then cutting down on those game servers would be the first place to start.

Lets incite a in game riot/protest to save the forums... Now whos with me!?

The good ol' days. I'm an OG Rants troll. Participated in (famous pker)'s ban riot, wildy ditch, staking removal, and free trade removal riots lol. If there is one last forum riot I will be present. Until the mods come, then I will quickly change my cloths and run away.

@Crone924 I agree with you about social media.

Granted, I use them...but I shouldn't be required to for the sake of RS. I'm 30. I started when I was 11. Started foruming at 12. My parents were okay with me playing RS. It's a game owned by a company with moderation. Same about the forums.

Had I asked my parents if I could use Reddit, TwiXer, or Discord they wouldn't have let me. Many of my friends' parents BLOCKED most of the internet and they could only go on RuneScape and a handful of unrelated sites. Without the forums they'd have likely quit the game many times over from being stuck with something that forums solved. It's rare but I still see it happen, I went to forums for help myself not too long ago.

Moving ALL discourse from the official website to less predictable third parties is a horrendous idea.

His thinking 1/1000 is a small number of players made me chuckle.

Didn't Jagex just celebrate an alleged 300,000,000 players a year or two ago? I'm not sure most other mmorps even have 300,000 players anymore lol.

Tomato, that's how I started playing: I'm 66, but lo these many years ago, I had a going-on-13 and a going-on-11 who wanted to play because it was all the rage at school.

As it ramped up, there was some targeting and bullying amongst the kids in the neighborhood, so a couple parents made accounts to see what the game was about.

My kids haven't played in some years, too busy with life, but I still do!

*waves* I'm a parent who made an account to check out the game when her son wanted to be a member. He doesn't play now, he moved on to other games and is now too busy being a husband and a Dad. I'm still here.

At this point if Jagex won't listen about saving the forums then we should just make a new, unofficial forums with all the QoL improvements we've been wanting. It won't be the same but ironically, if it's active enough they might start giving it attention alongside stuff like the wiki, Reddit etc. How to block a forum user

Don't let Jagex forget the forums.

Waves back at Megycal!

I'm still here too. Every once in while I'll be on when one of my kids comes over, for instance to finish up my penguins on a Tuesday night! and they'll look over my shoulder to see what it's like now.

Blown away by the number of new things in the game since they last played.

Mel, seems like a lot of these threads have people with the tech skills to make that happen!

I couldn't agree more.

Jagex is playing the numbers game at their own peril. Quanity does not equal quality.

If it came down to a choice between one random forumer or a thousand twerking tweens on Twitwit, I would value the opinions of an RSOF user over the crowd of kiddies every time.
