It has been a couple of days since the release of our own new Fort. Evidently there are a lot of players training in this brand new player owned content.

The question not too obvious is what is happening to the old POH.

Do you still love your old POH? Have A Fort of Our Own killed the old POH?

Personally, I still get my free weekly elite clue scroll from my POH Aquarium, but other than that there is nothing left there to me.

Feel free to tell us your experience on Player Owned Fort over the old POH on both the social and personal aspects.

My -hope- for the old POH is that Fort Forinthry relieves some of the pressure placed on it to carry the meaning of Construction as a skill, so that when Jagex -does- decide to try and update it, it doesn't have to be some incredibly meaningful update meant to save the POH's relevance.

I love my house. I've spent far more RSGP on it than I ever did or maybe even will on Fort Forinthry, and I would like for my house to hold a fair bit more use than simply getting an elite clue each week. That being said, it's very clear that reward space in a game that has gone above and beyond providing quality of life right out of the box such as RuneScape 3 needs to look quite a bit different from say, Old School RuneScape. It also needs to avoid pidgeon-holing the player within their POH for exorbitant amounts of time in hopes of preserving the newly found camaraderie found in places like the Max Guild, War's Retreat, and now Fort Forinthry.

Some ideas I would have for the POH.

> To encourage using all of the POH's resources as a genuine money-sink -and- take advantage of the feeling of "restfulness" - allow players with large, furnished houses to receive even more "rested XP." in the background. Players can interact with their butler or a hotspot to receive their xp, or either Siv or Aster could be spoken with at the fort.

> Greenhouse room. This introduces a tree and herb patch to the player owned house, which would merely enhance farming runs. The rest of the room could be used to cultivate special plants only found in home gardens - peppers, algae, etc. - that could enhance existing food items and potions with secondary effects. Bottles of Hot Sauce or portable Algae farms could be sold to players without greenhouses so they may also have access to the items and the homeowners can make some money.

The Fort does a much better job of being a social interaction hub, but it doesn't replace the POH for me.

I am very glad i didn't waste 200m+ on my house like i did plan to years back....If jagex can design a great update without causing 'destruction to current content , rendering further content into dead content....then i'm a billionaire IRL"

My 1k+ lumberyard teleports are now useless to me, knocked out by dang lodestone.

My PoH is devalued, it only gives me elites, my 3 combat rings is dead content, xp waste....it's just a storage unit now....They can do that! i'll donate my house to diango and we can open up a storage place for my flooded bank to be stored in :P

^arch items here, and there, broken on the floor as only people with alts can restore it all @300k+ per item. <---another failure by them, gathering skill, you mean a buyable skill lol.

:P

I stopped upgrading my PoH at 75 i think back in 2007/2008, more useless than ever now.

OSRS now is officially the bane of what RuneScape used to be and defeats RS3 in many ways. Least i value the OSRS team, i like the ideas they have, can't say the same about Rs3 team, no wonder all the good mods left.

"if i was the only one with great idea's, i'd leave to"

poor designs have backlash properties, and people wonder why new players are hard to find.

Jagex - "but we get 100 new members each month" "No! they are 90% alts, you can run the game 16+ times at once, my computer can run dying light twice with co-op mods on ULTRA settings at 1440p 2 screens @ 144 fps. you can see dust particles in the air."

honest question....does RS3 team know what they are doing? I thought the goal was to fix construction?

^don't answer that, i know the answer....if only the current humanity thought with players in mind and not with the wallets being bone dry on funding, would get way better updates.....

With all the Player-owned things, can form an island at this point, ports with ships check, farms check, house check, boss portals check...Welcome to player owned island..missed opportunity.

Greed taints the best designs. O_o

This is my unfinished house, sigh OSRS construction looks way better these days......my portal rooms are even unfinished lol. at this point i might just tear it all down and move the useful rooms closer to the portal. maybe design a square at the portals. just have to move armour stand, shark tank and storage from upstairs and tele tab making room.

first floor -

second floor -

basement - combat cross - was a lot of fun back in the day, Dhoraks/AGS and ancient magic fun or sara swords/anchor for friends that didn't have god swords.

Almost everybody I talked to in game are happy the old school POH is dead for the purpose of skilling. They are happy to look forward to seeing Player Owned Fort becoming the actual and practical social skilling hub.

We probably should have the Telescope and tablet making lecterns moving to the Fort too. The Telescope can be used to spot enemy camps for far away instead of Shooting Stars too. The Lectern perhaps can be moved into the Communal Church, and be used to make new tablets and divine products.

The Aquarium seems anti-climatic in the Fort though, so leave it and let it rot in the old school POH, except for those who still want to get a free elite clue scroll per week.

Lo and behold, the remastered POH in A Fort of Our Own is making strike in the direction of The Sims 4. :)

I love my POH, especially the costume room because it stores so many things.

I love it too, but I love my RS3 Bank far more, as I can access my costume room items without going to the outdated POH. :)

Hopefully they add similar rooms in the Player Owned Fort for new items, and make them accessible from our expanding RS3 Bank too.

What I like about the bank allowing remote access to the costume room from anywhere in the game - is that it feels like a reward for BUILDING the costume room. If you didn’t become a homeowner and build the room, your items would be taking up bankspace unless Diango could also hold them for you.

The POH wouldn’t be outdated if Jagex would give it some love. In spite of the content being neglected since whenever Aquariums were released, I’m proud of what my house is.

The love they are giving the old POH is cosmetic for most part. We still see the cape rack, wardrobes etc in our POH although we actually access them from our bank most of the time.

POH didn't have many practical usages for quite a while. Jagex want RS3 players to go out to the open world, socialize and team up to help the Time Guardian to protect Gielinor. :)

You're right, and even with the admirable goal of ensuring players run into one another in the overworld more often than players huddle up on their POH, it doesn't -have- to be that way.

> The Aquarium release kind of proved that rooms -could- still be added to the house even after the initial construction update that many people think the developers can't touch for some reason or another. If there -is- a way Jagex can add more rooms, that's a huge deal (alongside Fort Forinthry in the overworld) for potential "real 120 Construction".

> If Mod Ash could fix the POH's mechanics for Old School, is it not possible to cross-connect with people over there for the tougher mechanical things they were able to accomplish? (I'm talking about things like arranging pre-made rooms with a UI here. That's an update that many homeowners on our side of the community would love to have.)

> Fort Forinthry has provided interesting mechanics of its own that could translate to uses for the POH as well. The Town Hall's "rested xp", for example, could be DOUBLED if the player also has a larger, furnished POH. This would require more work on the player's part, so the additional potential for bonus experience is at least earned. Also, if you have multiple places in the world you can rest your head, wouldn't you feel rested too?

> Not every POH update should run the risk of segregating players. A Farming patch would simply make for an additional stop on a player's brisk journey all around Gielinor as they collect their yields - and it would be a nice little reward for training Construction up to the appropriate level to have the additional patch. Those "Jagex let me do this myself" moments are always feel-good, and the game needs those just as much as it needs social interaction and quality of life.
