I got the support shard after ~4 hours on agility bikes and the combat shard after ~5 hours standing on the strength platform at the beach. I can't imagine ever getting a shard from normal daily activities (except maybe via one-off super RNG luck).

I got all the shards I need for my Golden Cape already. I don't even have to pay 10k proteans I planned for one shard before this update.

I think it is like 5-10 hours per shard drop. The drop rate isn't great but practically very doable given we have almost a whole month to complete this event. Literally, if you skill and kill a couple of hours a day, it is against the odds not to get your prestigious Golden Cape.

To answer the questions here so far:

You can get shards by using proteans.

At the moment, Sandy Clue Scrolls don't work for the clue step task, but I have a change for that in the pipeline, as it's a nice synergy between the events, so we're looking to hotfix that in.

Shards are not much rarer than in the previous event.

Bossing should be the same,

Clue steps might be slightly different, because I changed it from clue scrolls to clue steps.

Skilling shards are balanced to take a bit longer this time, but not drastically so, since there's more quick shards (Jagex account, gold/proteans, premier, quests(if you have them already completed)) this time around.

HOTFIX 1 June 2023:
Completing sandy clue steps now also gives a chance at receiving the clue scroll golden cape shard.[2]
thanks for letting me know I've been trying to get them through sandy clue scrolls as I can't do them through normal clues as I'm a skiller and some of them are combat related so I've had to delete them and someone told me to do it through sandy clues as they are not combat related which still requires some areas I can't access to but when I asked on the beech some said you could get them through sandys and some said you couldn't so I did a look on the forums before creating another thread can someone keep me updated on the clues please.

EDIT1: I did all the sandy clues today from the beginning and didn't receive 1

Not to mention that there is also a bad luck mitigation in place if you are getting unlucky with shard drops as confirmed by Mod Frosch here:

hey guys I've read the updates this week saying theres some hotfix being in place 09:00 game time tomorrow my guess is these shards have something to do with it they never stated what the hotfixes were for though so if anyone gets any updates on the sandy clue scrolls could you keep me updated on here please and I'll do the same for you lot too thanks a lot for the support with this thread I'm glad I ain't the only 1 going through these problems.

got the 4 for logging in and got artisan from running dailies plus bossing and combat, just turned to thieving to get the 8th piece currently earned 1.2m in xp without the shard but not a massive issue, been meaning to train thieving up anyways
