I've had a blast on the forums. There were so many insightful and funny threads, some of which are long dead. I've met some interesting people here. I still remember some of my posts from 2009, and the forum guides I wrote and the forum games I played.

However, there's no pretending - the good times ended quite a few years ago.

All is well that ends well. See you on Reddit.

It is a shame to see the forums go, though I will not be ashamed to admit the past time I properly used them was many many years ago. With the rise of Reddit and Discord, the Forums have (let's face it) been on lofe support for at least the last decade.

But reality is, this forum is built on webscript, and webscript is no longer developed by Jagex. So i completely understand why it's being removed as they slowly release updates to the website and modernize it.

This explains why the forums look like they're falling apart. On a bunch of pages, I can see the top comment of a forum post page overlaps the second, for some reason (EDIT: Which is happening on the two posts above this one). Since it wasn't being developed, there is nothing they could do to fix it. Thus, it looks unrefined, certainly not a good look to have.

And so, here we are, the end of an era. Farewell, Runescape Forums. May you have the strength to defeat whatever lies on Page 51.

Its sad, but at the same time, its also not surprising given the state of affairs over the last few years. The writing has been on the wall for a long time.

Personally my worry is how clan recruitment will be going forward. As a clan leader we've had most of our success with recruiting on the RSOF. We use the other available platforms too (listed on Reddit's List of Clans page, and we've used the RS Discord server to post clan advertisements abiding by their guidelines) but nothing comes anywhere close to what the RSOF has been able to provide to clans, and we have regularly found we get more applicants listing the RSOF as their referral than the other places.

Without significant changes on those other platforms, clan recruitment simply will not be the same as it currently is - which is a huge letdown both for clans leaders and players looking to join clans.

Will you, and other mods try to move onto Reddit or similar platforms to continue your general work?

While some may or already do use those other platforms, there's an important history lesson to take into account too.

Something the community has always appreciated here is that those who were invited to the FMod team came from the forum community - we were all fairly established users on the forums already and weren't unknowns, and for many, the comments after being dropped into the green pool was 'it was only a matter of time.' As such, while we may have had our differences with some members of the community, generally there wasn't much pushback when someone was invited.

The same hasn't always held true for the forum curators of the past. Some would do their best to be part of the community, understand how things operate, and be extremely receptive to feedback prior to instituting change, earning the respect of the forum community as a whole. Others immediately made changes that the forum community significantly disagreed with and caused a huge divide, never quite earning that respect and trust.

With that in mind, I personally think the other platforms (Reddit, Discord) should follow the same model Jagex did prior to inviting us to the FMod team. They currently look for players who are active members of their respective community that fit the criteria they are looking for to bring on board, and they should keep doing that.

An unknown entering into a community and receiving status instantly won't be received well. A respected individual in a community who is a regular part of that community and proven themselves will, and its important that any moderator of a community is someone that their community members can respect.

It has been a privilege to be around these forums since 2006 and meeting many new people. I will be missing lurking these forums. Looking forward to chit-chat with you all on one of the official RS Discord servers.

Wow... just wow.

When someone decided to poke me on Discord and mention this, I told them it wasn't a funny joke and ignored it until they sent me the announcement post on the home page. I'm sort of speechless. It's a shame to see them go, especially for those who stuck around and kept it running, even long after Jagex themselves abandoned it because it was genuinely a great place to be, a great community to interact with, and with long friendships lasting years, and some even decades.

There will always be memories of the good times, and bad times people had on here, but like all good things, nothing lasts forever. There were countless people who petitioned for updates, attention, etc., and we fell on deaf ears, but at least we all had a place to chat and read posts where at our PCs, on the train/bus to work/uni, or wherever else!

I'd make a list of all the amazing people I've met over the past 15 years of using the forums, but I know I'll forget them all, so I'll simply say...

Thank you to everyone who has posted on here, whether it was just 1 post or 100,000 posts. You made your mark on here, and while they'll be deleted from the official website, the interactions people had will always be remembered. <3

Thank you Mexk for taking the effort to archive everything, that is a mammoth task and I'm almost certain it'll be appreciated by every single person who has ever cared for the RSOF, and those who don't managed to see these forums before they shut, can take a final look at the archive. I know we had a very difficult past with interactions Mexk, and I hope there's no hard feelings for it still - there's none from here, and not been any for near of a decade, I've just not mentioned it publicly. Keep up the amazing work. ^_^

It has been an absolute pleasure to participate in the forums over the years with a great many of you.

A huge thank you to the long-time forum community members, both from times gone by and those that have stuck/are sticking around through until the sunset.

There has also been many years of service from players on the Green Team, some going back to nearly the very start. Not all the times and changes were easy, but your service has been appreciated.

You are all the best.

The forum community will always hold a special place in my heart. Other communication pathways may exist for time to come, but the forums themselves & the community built within will always be something to look back on with warmth.

See ya'll goobers on the other side <3

My last post may have been in 2015 but it's still sad to see the forums go.

It would be nice to see them archived so all the existing posts can still be viewed, even if just for sentimental reasons.

Thanks to all the forum mods and all the people who put a lot of work into helping others and hosting events via the forums.

Signing off,
