Gosh, that`s awful. Hope someone got his number so he can be arrested.

Don`t you find that road rage nowadays is getting so much worse and so much more prevalent. It is as if no-one has the time any more to have a little patience. On a stretch of road I use to go and feed the animals, because I keep to the 50 mph speed limit I get tailgated all the way along there, and quite often get overtaken even though it is double whites..

Aye, I get that a lot around here too mostly in the lanes. Right up your arse trying to bully you to go faster.

A couple of times a year there'll be yet another tree or fence with some soggy bunches of flowers tied to it, maybe a football scarf or a teddybear, and the local rag will print weepy lines from his/her friends and family saying what a 'lovely lad/lass they were, so kind and considerate and everyone loved them so much'. Everyone except the poor bastards whose exhaust pipe they were driving up every day of the week trying to prove what an ace driver they were.

These fatal accidents are consistently solo car affairs - no one in front forcing them to keep their speed to a sensible level so they floor it and wrap themselves round the nearest tree, telephone pole, what-have-you. The latest one was a head-on with a horse and rider - the rider survived with multiple injuries, the horse had to be destroyed at the scene. The driver (who was on the wrong side of the road taking a bend too fast and wide) also died.

What a dreadful accident. That poor rider. If they ever recovered physically I would imagine mentally they never would, and would possibly not ride again.

The main road, mainly dual carriageway close to us is a 50 mph Gateway zone, then when you turn off into the lane where our land is, which is a tiny country road, high banks, twisty corners and so small and fairly underused there is grass growing in the centre of it in places, you still get many drivers going through like lunatics, as it is a shortcut, and the limit on these country lanes has then gone up to 60 mph. It is completely nonsensical. Not that a speed limit is going to deter anyone at all I suppose.

My personal hatred for drivers is on the highways... I honestly can't stand the people that get in the passing lanes and move like slugs leaving the right lanes completely empty. That forces you to choose either break the laws and pass on the right here in America or sit behind people that are breaking the passing laws by not moving over as here the laws are slower traffic keep right.

This. It happens in every town/city I've ever driven in where there's more than one lane each direction.

I can pass 50 signs that say "Slower Traffic Keep Right" and yet the guy doing 5-10 under the limit is smelling the roses in the left lane.

Doesn't the USA have minimum speed limits on highways?

There's no "minimum" typically speaking, but the law is don't impede the flow of traffic. So if the speed limit is 65 MPH and everyone is doing 75, then.. you are expected to safely and reasonably speed it up some.

I live in a rural-like area where occasionally tractors and things need to use the roadways and they don't go fast at all, so they're always really good about staying as far right as they can to allow for passing.

EDIT: Of course this is real-life, thanks auto-correct!

I think it's Michigan where I was driving and I saw a sign that said "75MPH MAX / 55MPH MIN".

So I'm almost positive there's minimum speed limits.

Most major highways here have a minimum speed of 45 implied if it isn't posted. Many highways I travel on have minimum and maximum speeds based on the type of vehicle you're using. Usually those the specially posted speeds are maximums for vehicle type, 45 is considered unilateral for highway use.

Although when passenger vehicle maximum is 70mph and you're doing 55 in the passing lane. Move your sorry behind over and allow the other vehicles to do the speed limit. Just because you can operate your vehicle slower doesn't give you the right to monopolize the lanes designed to go around you.

The more you know. I've never seen such a sign, though I've seen 75MPH / 55MPH Trucks and Autos with Trailers, but again those would've been max-speed limits.

I think Tranq is probably right though if I dust off my old handbook...
