If you want Jagex to pay more attention to the RSOF, I understand and support. However, it is by Jagex's own statement they think social media are "pivotal" to them in amplifying and enhancing the gaming experience. I have mixed reactions to this statement but it won't matter perhaps because these are Jagex's games, they will do what they think is good for the company, not specific RSOF users including you and me.

Besides, as I mentioned, regardless how negative you think social media are, you can't deny there are content like visual and audio we can't have with text based platforms like the RSOF. So at least some social media platform can't be removed. That said, if Twitch is bad, Jagex can go to Youtube more, but there has to be some social media platform that can give us content text based platforms can't.

Social media did not play any role at all ... Yours article has nothing to do with social media.

Again ... much proof how easily you '

Social media does nothing for us ...

How could social media not playing any role? If Jagex removed social media, where did the content creators help Jagex to amplify and enhance the game experience, and show case the game to a wider audience?

There is no way the real world can live without visual and audio channels like TV and radio, but most can live without newspapers and forums.

I agree that Jagex should have paid more attention to the Forums instead of deserting them; however, social media has proven to be more effective to them as they are able to reach a wider audience than the ones on RuneScape. Furthermore, the ease of use and accessibility provided Jagex more ways to engage with an enormous number of people in comparison with the players already active on RuneScape.

Whenever you are addressing the playerbase here on RuneScape.com, you are already conversing with players of the game; on the other hand, if you are addressing a wider public through social media, you have the ability of potentially reaching out to would-be players, thus increasing your reach and playerbase. That's a win-win situation for Jagex.

For example, as of this precise moment, there are 8,700 players online right now on the
https://www.reddit.com/r/2007scape/
subreddit:

Obviously, you can't get that here on the Forums. Furthermore, the rules are a bit more relaxed there, and you can express yourself more than you would here on the Forums. Another positive side of social media -- at least for the players -- is the ability to converse with certain Jagex Moderators that may or may not be able to assist them with account bans/mutes, namely, the example below:

You cannot appeal bans here on the Forums, as stated in the Rules. However, with social media, you are able to plead your case to certain Jagex Moderators, and due to the community jumping in, your case may even gain momentum, prompting a swift resolution. That's the power of social media. It's something social media has done for us, the players.

Those are simply a few examples of the impact social media has had and still has on Jagex and RuneScape as a whole. Stating that it should be removed is unequivocally absurd.

Now, I must admit that it's disheartening to see the " 0 Users Online " counter :( :

the counter doesnt actually work.

I don't feel the "active users now" is accurate and just leads to some of our users misunderstanding because of it, for example so we'd leave any further activity monitor our of updates and frankly probably get rid of the existing one. It doesn't add much value.

Ah, yes, I actually quote that post of his a lot of times; however, it says that it's inaccurate but not that it doesn't work. In any case, what I tried to convey was that it's painful to see 0, regardless of its function, compared to when we had over 1,000 active users :@ .

Concurrent players counters mean almost 0 in this era, as they can mean totally different things among different games and websites of the very same company. I won't say RSOF is "done" because there are
"0 Active User Online"
. ;)

There are many ways Jagex can still show their players the information without relying on the audio and visual features on the social media. For instance, RS3 is going to showcase the upcoming content throughout the end of the year IN THE GAME through a dedicated in game area. Previously, they did that with livestreams to do the presentation and protyping. They used to have dedicated areas on the official Runesape websites for some themed content too so players didn't have to go to social media to watch them.

"On November 13th, we'll be launching a dedicated in-game area to give you details on everything coming up until the end of the year! Located in Burthorpe, this seasonally themed area will be a one stop spot to highlight the key releases we've been cooking up."
