Didn't get to do any of these because of the, erm, mess that was the former thread (props to Xynt, you remind me of me). I present to y'all a lore explanation for what happened to our august Kingdom.
One Last Forum RP: The Civilization's Life-cycle
The union between a semi-independent fighting force and a structured, organized Kingdom with a central government and domestic concerns could not last forever. Though the Kingdom of Ardougne had vanquished or subdued all known enemies in no small part due to the help of their Noxious Gladiators, peace time suited them ill. Ardougne's holdings stretched from studious Yanille to the south to industrious Catherby to the north, but a military cannot govern an empire; it can only build.
Once King Thoros passed away, successive royal regimes saw less and less of a point. First they conquered enemies, then they put down rebellions. With no one left to fight, it was only a matter of time before civil war. Rather than have it come to that, Imperator Sound5leader and a delegation of his men met with reigning King Luthar, and agreed to leave the Kingdom to the regular military and police forces. The Gladiators set sail for parts unknown, leaving behind accounts of deeds and battles which became stories, then legends, and finally, myth.
Over time Ardougne gradually shrank. Future members of the Ardignas lineage lacked the foresight and vision of their ancestors so crucial in articulating the Kingdom's hold over Kandarin, preferring to maintain what they inherited rather than pass on something more. The Kingdom's xenophobia finally caught up with it, and conquered species agitated for self-direction. Upstart opponents began to take up Ardougne's regional mantle.
One by one, the great cities became autonomous unions or conquered subjects, and Ardougne became little more than an old city with an incredible history, their tales becoming mere footnotes.
