Activity in the Ports District was abnormally high, it would seem news of pirate sightings has spread throughout the region. Ridley had entered the Catacombs of the Death Lotus headquarters and made her way to the command center. There, a multitude of D.L.A agents was ready to receive commands from Ridley.

"Pirates have been spotted in the western, eastern and now the southern boundaries of the Arc region. The islands are in immediate danger and most possibly will be raided. The scum of the seas must be pushed back." she took out her katana and slashed it into the wooden table where a world map was placed.

"Many of you are aware of the empire policy of non-aggression and non-violence. This will not apply in this case. We will not be on the waters of the Arc but rather stationed on several of the islands of high population. Kill any pirate on sight that makes landfall. Make it swift and dispose of the body, take no prisoners." she retrieved her sword and sheathed it back into place.

"You are dismissed, you should already know where you all will be stationed." in that instant, the room was empty with Ridley stood in the middle. She knew what she had to do next, she had to make haste to the Grand Pyramid and see if a cure for Dayan had at last been discovered. The Order of Damned cannot function properly if the others are running all over the place. She then remembered the incident that occurred off the coast of Waiko. "Blast! It must wait for now with the current Pirate threat. It's all hands on deck if we are to get through this."

To the Captains involved in the Waiko Incident

Change of plans, you will all receive further orders in due time to deal with a current Pirate threat. And I will make myself clear, the non-aggression policy does NOT apply to the scum of the seas. Any Pirate vessel is to be met with a folly of cannon fire. There shall be no prisoners.
Protect the Arc at all costs and allow none to get in range of Menaphos by all means.

The Investigation will have to wait for a later time.
May Seiryu guard you all.

"Can't waste more time" Ridley thought to herself as she sent the hawks off. She made her way back to the Grand Pyramid where she bumped into Divinus and Sarainy.

"Ridley! It's good I caught up with you. I found the final piece of the puzzel. Cain should have made the preparations for the spell." Divinus struggled to speak as he attempted to catch his breath. Sarainy, however, was cool as ice blitz. The trio made their way into the Pyramid to meet with Cain in hopes to end the inner crisis.

With a huff of exertion, Sarainy pulled herself upwards. The chill of the air against Sarainy's sweat covered skin made her shudder. The temperature of the Ullek plateau was more dangerous in the night time than during the blistering heat of the day.

"Div, you need to hurry if we're to make it before nightfall. Trust me you do not want to be out here once the sun fully sets,"
Sarainy said with some impatience.

His response from below was lost on the desert winds as a sudden gust blustered around them, kicking up red powdery sand and grit. It didn't matter his response, Sarainy thought to herself, she wasn't going to slow down.

****

Reaching the top of the plateau, Sarainy looked back and watched Divinus climb. His technique was wrong, too much time spent looking at close hand holds rather than the bigger picture of a route upwards. She was all but ready to tell him exactly that when something hit her from behind, nearly knocking her off the cliff. Despite attempting to shift her weight and grab on to the edge, Sarainy fell with a cry.

****

A force of energy pushed Sarainy upwards, practically blasting her back up. The pain made her skin crawl and her ears ache - but she was alive, her arms clinging to the top of the cliff as the rest of her swayed precariously.

"Sorry, an Air Surge spell was my first instinct!"
Divinus shouted up.

Maybe she had been underestimating him, Sarainy thought.

Not wanting to give her attacker a second chance, she dragged her body upwards and drew her lance.

Sarainy cursed. How could she have not heard them?

Two decrepit creatures shuffled forwards, their gaits uneasy. Wrapped in crumbling linen, the smell of mouldering flesh now filling in the air, they advanced with arms outstretched.

Shame filled Sarainy's thoughts... So busy criticising Divinus that she nearly fell to her death because of two shambling mummies. Her eyes blazed with righteous purple energy.

With a furrowed brow she stepped forwards and twirled, slicing at the closest of them. The blade easily cleaved through the dried corpse and sent it crumbling to the ground. Without stopping Sarainy turned a pirouette and brought her weapon up through the other vile undead. It stumbled for a moment backwards, a low unearthly groan leaving its dry throat before it clattered off the plateau.

Divinus pulled himself up behind her and gave Sarainy a strange look. She wasn't quite sure what it meant, but she was embarrassed and didn't want to know.

"The walls of Sophanem look beautiful in this light, don't they?"
he asked.

Sarainy felt the power in her eyes fade and she looked away from him, pulling up the peacock green cloth gorget over the bridge of her nose.

Sea Wolves

After the proclamation of the state of emergency as stated in Grand Commander Vendragon's letters to the Commanders of the four Commanderies established under the Aegis, news of pirates attacking pilgrim vessels added more concern to defence at sea.

News of a pilgrim vessel from some port (in which origin is yet-to-be-determined) being hijacked by a group of pirates had reached Fortress Aegis in Crandor. As Vendragon opened the scroll, he could not believe his own eyes. Furthermore, he grew worried of what the pilgrims aboard that ship had become. Were they killed? Were they forced to meed the pirates' demands? No answer; not even his insight can answer.

Pen on right hand and scroll ready, the pious brother (who was bestowed the rank of Grand Commander after the events of the global undead threat that happened not so long ago) began writing a letter to the Grandmaster, requesting for a task force to be sent.

Grandmaster Siegfreid Helbrecht,

News of an incident involving a pilgrim ship en route to Entrana came into my office today.
In this light, I seek your permission that a task force will be sent to investigate on the matter.

Also, would it be sound that we sent at least two ships to protect the pilgrim routes by sea?
I seek that that incident should never happen again.

Peace in Saradomin,
Grand Commander Rowanius Vendragon.

chronology: after Ridley's orders arrive

Of Rats and Men

The tossing waves raged impotently below the squat repair dock cradling the Spirit of Moai at Waiko port. Repairs to the great wound in her side were almost complete, and the crew were enjoying a last night of shore leave before heading off to join the task force. The ship was as dark as the sky above and the waves below, save for the bobbing lantern of the watchman… and an orange glow from the captain’s cabin to stern.

Inside, a sharp rap at the door could be heard. “Enter,” Captain Jang Kiyori called. A dark-haired, amber-skinned, muscular young man stepped inside. “Ah, Zandos,” Kiyori greeted him warmly. “Have a seat,” he offered, gesturing across his parchment-strewn desk.

Zaahl nodded solemnly and sat in the battered old teak chair.

“So… what are the rumours?” Kiyori smiled, eyes wrinkling kindly.

“Sir?” Zaahl asked, momentarily thrown.

“Oh come on, you don’t need to ‘sir’ me, there’s no-one else here,” Kiyori laughed. “Unless you’ve grown tired of being my ears?” he teased.

Zandos recovered quickly, feigning a knowing smile. “Well, there’s a great deal of speculation about who rescinded our initial orders. Some say one of the Secret Orders, some say ‘the Epic Fool’ – presumably referring to Vizier Cain of Menaphos – some even say the Pharaoh has risen from his deathbed to personally command the fleet,” he snorted.

Kiyori nodded. “And what do you think about the battles to come?” he inquired searchingly.

Zaahl’s face darkened. “The pirates are rats and need to be exterminated,” he asserted. “Leave one alive and they multiply in the shadows and come back stronger. We must be as ruthless as they are to survive.”

Kiyori looked momentarily shocked. “Well, there was me thinking you were different to those other soldier types,” he laughed bitterly. “I know you’re stationed on my vessel for boarding defence, but I thought I had taught you this last year that ‘defend’ does not always equal ‘kill’. You sound like her ,” he said bitterly, eyes flashing towards a scroll on the edge of his cluttered desk. Zandos could make out a broken green seal bearing a book symbol, and a signature with the letters ‘DLA’ underneath.

Interesting, Zandos thought.

“What do you think of young Ridnir?” the captain inquired.

“The deckhand boy?” Zandos frowned at the sudden change of topic. “He's a damn good kid. Will probably make a fine officer someday.”

“And if I told you we rescued him from a sinking pirate vessel two years ago?” Kiyori smiled.

Zandos opened his mouth… then closed it again. The ship creaked in the gale outside.

“They are people, Zandos,” the captain said quietly, turning away. “They have their own motivations, even if they seem alien to us. Understanding your enemy is the key to defeating them… but bringing them onto your side is better, surely?”

Zandos began to reply, but Kiyori raised his hand. “You’re dismissed, soldier,” he said.

Zaahl saluted and stepped uncertainly out into the stormy night.

Admiral James Buchanan,

I have received word of incoming pirate attacks from a supposed “large, dark mass” somewhere to the South-West of Port Sarim, deep in the middle of the sea. Though these pirates have not yet reached our shores, I have received reports of enemy vessels close to the Arc. I can only assume they will be upon us soon. I have arranged a meeting for you with one of our newest captains, Arya Sol. I am sure you have heard of her. She has a questionable past, but I urge you to look beyond that. Further, consider that her past crimes may make her an invaluable asset in our upcoming battles.

Lastly, with the help of the VSS and what is left of Sylvia's people, I have located your son. I will be bringing him to Varrock to discuss his options.
