Cain entered the shrine room. “You summoned the Anagami didn’t you?” he had a worried expression on his face.

Dayan sighed, “It must be done if we want to have a chance of survival.” He looked pale after his interaction with the Anagami. Doing such interactions are highly spiritually exhausting… one would be bedridden for a few days before they were back at full strength.

“You must rest.” Cain helped Dayan up. Outside, the city Sophanem can be seen from the balcony. Blood stained walls and littered with the bodies of the once undead and menaphite guards and soldiers. The city must be repaired before its residents return home. At last the crimson moon begun to set and the red light that colored the walls and sand began to dim away.

Faithlessness

"Brother Rowan! Brother Rowan!"

"What now, Brother Aleksandir? Can't you see me reading the Scriptures today?"

"Pardon me, fellow Brother, but it looks like the West isn't the only one with the undead treatment. I'm afraid that..." He could not utter the next few words.

"That? Be quick."

"Brother, Witchaven is sharing the same fate as our fellows from the western side."

"Witchave... What? The fishing town too? How come?" A beaten-up and wounded man was with Aleksandir who accompanied him. He came to tell the tale.

"It's.... It's horrible, Brother! I cannot put into words... how horrible last night was. I thought... But why? Has Saradomin forsaken us, common folk? I remember a family mercilessly... sl... slaughtered by those wretched... which happened to wear holy armaments. Why? Is Saradomin punishing us?"

Rowan was a bit struck by the man's words, but he calmly assured him. "Saradomin indeed wanted what is best for humanity. He didn't want this, for sure. That's why we are sent here in the first place. We, the Holy Order of Fellow-Soldiers of the Aegis of Saradomin, will ensure that your town will be a safe haven once again. Have faith in us, dear faithful."

"I... I do not know if I have faith left... But yes, I understand what you mean. Hold me dear, close to me... I want to see the light again, Brother." Afterwards, Brother Rowan laid his hands over the wounded man's head and said a blessing.

"Saradomin's light is brightest in the dark; so shall your faith be as radiant as the morning sun."

"Amen."

Afterwards, the wounded man was taken into the house and was being taken cared at by the rest of the fellow-soldiers inside.

That night, Rowan wrote a letter.

Dear Morgiana,

How are things on your end? Right now, things here in Ardougne aren't faring well. First, the West was attacked by a sudden raid by undead brigands. Then, just recently, Witchaven has sounded its wails of mourning and suffering because of a similar attack. I do not know if East Ardougne will still stand after this.

I wonder if you can assist us with our problem here right now. Being a skilled enchantress that we are proud to have, I suppose that you can find solutions on how to deal with the undead threat here. Related to that, how is research in the jungles on the same matter? Might as well use what information and data were gathered to advance our offensive here.

Looking forward to your response. Saradomin be with ye.

As the hours passed after the attack on Witchaven, fear and uncertainty enveloped the Royal Capital. There was indeed no telling of when and where the next attack would take place. Men and women eventually started hoarding victuals and supplies, whatever they can find, nearby and at the Marketplace. Some would brawl over some coveted resources like pastries and spices, cloth and vegetables. Even worse, one man without remorse mugged a woman and left her wounded and unconscious. (Thankfully, my fellows saw her and nursed her back to health.) Many others would knock at the door of our chapter house for more food though we told them that we cannot help them at that time. Indeed, chaos had beset in the city. Imagine that and the undead isn't at the doorstep.

The good king, Thoros, was seen as the beacon in the midst of all the internal madness. He agreed that our Order would send out more aid here in Ardougne to help out with the threat. In fact, more of our soldiers and crates full of fresh fruit and vegetables from our other holdings were brought here. At the very least, our efforts lessened the domestic strife, making them at ease and eager to defend the city no matter the cost.

Preparations were taken in the greatest detail as the response. Walls and palisades were placed on the eastern side to halt any possible advances to the city. City militia and Royal Military units were given more training to make themselves useful should the inevitable happens. Monks and a few Citharede sisters were sent as well to cooperate in instilling the morale of the people and heal those who are hurt. A number of warpriests from the Aegis' Warpriest Corps were sent as well to support the soldiers. Mages from the Magic Guild came to the rescue.

With Saradomin on our side, why should I falter? Light indeed is what will illuminate the darkest of hours. May Saradomin be with us as we pass through the horrors of the present.

The night will come... We shall stand strong!

Mimring is sitting close to the summit of the menaphos pyramid, his flail tied to his back, he is looking at the battle going on below, Confident in the survival of the city he closed his eyes and started to focus on the energies around him. His concentration was broken however by one of his servants appearing from a shadowed part of the walls.
"Master I must apologize but the task was not completed, several cities have failed to draw the symbols, they are currently facing the undeads by themselves, their survival is unlikely, you may be interested to know that it is Paterdomus, Witchaven and priffdinas that are in danger" the undead stated without emotion.
With a nod Mimring slid down the wall, landing silently he headed toward the Pharaoh's quarters, cloaked in smoke and shadows no guard had a chance of spotting him as he quickly made his way to the door, blasting it open with a spell, not wasting time before he grabbed the magic carpet.

Unfurling it in front of a large enough window Mimring stepped on it and headed toward paterdomus using his own magic to boost the speed of the carpet, quickly enough Paterdomus was in sight the temple swarming with the undeads with the demons holding the line the Carpet swooped down, dropping the necromancer close to the broken circle, landing as ceremoniously as possible Mimring simply headed toward the circle, his weapon cutting any undead that stepped before him, as he Reached the circle he slammed the tip of his flail on the border of the circle, with a surge of Energy the circle twisted and burned itself onto the stones of the temple, carving itself permanently and with a sparked to life with increased energy, pushing away all the undeads in it's action radius.

"Artemis, once you're finished clearing up the undeads around the temple head to Priffdinas,
something twisted the ritual and it's having the opposite effect, i'm heading to Ardougne"
before any answer could be given Mimring was already leaving toward the west, the carpet
leaving a trail of smoke from the amount of magic used.

Through a Glass, Darkly

The foyer of the council chamber was ringing with chaos and the din of battle from outside as reports were delivered and orders sent. Sana clutched the crumpled diagram in a sweaty hand as she observed a bloodied soldier come charging in and throw a torn scrap of paper to a frantic, blue-cloaked scribe behind a huge desk.

The Cadarn mage strode over with a confidence she definitely didn’t feel. “I need to see the Elder Council immediately!”

The scribe glanced at her derisively from behind a mountain of scrolls. “The Elder Council are debating a response to the Wushanko attack on our capital. Go help ensure there’s still one left.”

Sana brandished the diagram. “The ritual was tampered with. Wushanko are not responsible. The signs are detectable if you’re looking for them.”

The scribe’s eyes widened in shock, but he reached over and took it. “I…have nearly finished collating these casualty reports. I will bring them with…this…yes…now go .”

“Oh,” Sana wilted. “Yes. Quite right.” She walked dejectedly towards the doors. She’d imagined herself bursting into the council chamber and saving the day, but she supposed reality was always less glamorous. Casualty reports …she wondered how many were dead. She went back to ask.

The scribe was not at his desk…but she caught a glimpse of a blue cloak disappearing behind an alcove in the wall. She looked round, but no-one else had noticed in the chaos. What in the world ...She took a deep breath and decided to follow.

The staircase in the alcove spiralled down and down. She carefully trod to match the scribe’s footsteps. The stairs finally opened into a maze of torchlit passages. She waited until he rounded each corner and followed. Peeking round the 13th corner, she stifled a gasp. Some kind of laboratory was in front of her, with tanks of cloudy glass holding eight thrashing, mutated zombies in magical fields. Several Elves were in the gloomy room, conversing with the scribe in low voices. They wore unfamiliar black uniforms. She strained to hear them speak…there was an empty tank nearby, and she quickly darted behind it.

“…definition of ‘under control’ and mine are clearly very different, officer. What in Seren’s name happened to ‘minimal casualties?’”

“Their adaptive abilities are beyond our projections, it is true. However I am sure we will soon work out-”

“-and you only captured eight? Can you do anything right?!” the scribe’s voice rose.

“Ailred, calm yourself. Eight is plenty enough for the project.”

“It had better be.”

Sana’s world spun as she gazed through the twisted glass. The ritual alterations…what kind of Elf would… The door suddenly seemed a hundred miles away. She shifted towards it, heart hammering.

“Leaving so soon?” Ailred Binan turned and skewered her with a triumphant glare. The bottom dropped out of her stomach as all eyes turned on her. She reached for her wand but something hard hit the back of her head and her vision dissolved into bright lights…and then darkness.

Demons, Dragons, and Travel Plans

The battle raged on but there was no end to the undead horde. Time was slow, and Artemis’s followers were growing weary. A man on a flying carpet flew by. He could see that it was Khan Mimring from Wushanko Empire.

Mimring did not speak but he had solidified the ritual circle with a blast of energy and his flail. The horde crumbled under the spell but rose again after a moment of reprieve. The Khan of Goshima only told Artemis to head to Prifddinas once the horde died down here. Artemis nodded and Mimring had set off again. That carpet however, looked familiar. Had he stolen the Pharoah's or was it one that had been given to him?

The Anigami dragons had been a huge help. While the zombies were not completely suppressed by their watery blasts, they at least held the horde back while others attacked them. Icey blasts came from behind Artemis. He looked behind him.

A young woman had teleported in. So, this was Ariane? The hero of magic and the one that has spoken with the mouthpieces of the Elder Gods? She did not look like much, but she was a powerful mage.

As the horde died down they had a moment to converse. Ariane brought word from Archmage Rnoy that their casting of the spell had been successful. Artemis showed her the circle that had previously been fixed by Mimring and said that all is well now. Ariane nodded with grace and said that she had to check on Sophanem next. They said their goodbyes and she teleported away.

The Anigami Dragons were still fighting the thinning hordes when Artemis returned to the battlefield. Blast after blast, the trio of dragons cycled between water and lightning attacks. Zombies lay fried from the electrical attacks as the other demons sent fire waves at the now lifeless bodies to burn the remains.

Zarr’s incompetence could have costed them their lives if it had not been for their allies. He would deal with Zarr later. For now, he had to make plans to travel to the city of the elves. Seems they were being overrun…they must had messed up the ritual badly for that to be the case.
