When locking threads due to gravebumping, it doesn't depend on the context/content of the thread and posts, and as a standard procedure they are automatically locked on sight.
When the OP has not been attentive to their thread for a long while, on which the discussion died, and it suddenly is bumped after such a long gap (by the OP or another person), it's considered a gravebump, which automatically takes priority as the unwritten forum rule regardless of what the thread and its content have to offer. It's past its sell-by date, and a new thread is needed for a new discussion about the topic.

As a general guideline
on a busy forum if a thread hasn't been posted on in over a week we'll consider it grave-bumping. On a quiet forum, if something hasn't been posted on in over a month we'll consider it grave-bumping, however, it will be to our discretion and if you'd like a grave-bump to be reviewed please post on here.
