Suggestion:
Prevent guests from instantly entering a guest-open Clan Chat, and instead, allow the existing Clan Members to approve/deny them, as well as make a new
list
of
approved guests
(opposite of Ban List). This added safety measure would be optional.

2nd cooperative suggestion:
Allow us to prevent F2P'ers from guesting/attempting to guest. If not possible, then allow us to identify F2P guests or those who attempts to guest (assuming first suggestion got implemented).

Pros:

Vastly reduce the issue of malicious guests entering to disrupt the atmosphere in Clans. Saving a lot of time and energy from being wasted on dealing with them.

Makes Clans a lot more pleasant place to be in, without having to restrict it is growth (Aka disabling guesting) to achieve that.

Cons:

Can potentially put newly genuine guests on a waiting list when there is no ranks available to approve them (although, if there is none online to approve them, then there is little point for them to guest).
________________________________________________________________________

Why I'm suggesting this: For most experienced leaders which have the guesting feature enabled; the necessity of this change is a no-brainer, but for anyone that might be still wondering: It is because the guesting feature mechanic is very broken where anyone, from any world, any level, and
any intention
can get through..such a kind and accepting concept, right?

Wrong.

In reality, this concept fails miserably to achieve productivity, as much as counter-productivity it generates from the problems caused due to us having zero control over who guests in.

The list of approved guests (i.e. a whitelist) was suggested last year and was apparently not possible according to Maz due to limitations with the technology at the time. Hopefully things have changed a year on as it is a good idea :)

As for adding a feature that allows clan members to approve/deny guests, that too seems like a useful concept. Yes, some guests could try to guest at times when noone with the permission to accept guests is online, but that's still better than closing the clan off to guests completely. There could be an issue with unwanted guests continuously spamming clan chat with the request to guest. Where that request pops up may also cause issues (a pop up may be too distracting, a message in clan chat may be too inconspicuous for some (the latter seems like a better option to me tbh)).

Anyhoos, support if it's possible, if the two issues above are dealt with well and if a permission is added to restrict the accepting/declining of guests from lower ranks.

The popping up notification over guesting will entirely depend on how this feature is designed. If it is like deleting friends or recieving Action Bar offers, then we didn't made much progress, however, if it was another interface and list (next to online Clan Members list, and Ban list) that only notifies you ingame-chat/Clan Chat; then we moved a big step forward =) .

Ironically, the one thing I thought that describe how I would want to see the guesting requests stocking up is the permissions screen from a Windows 7 file properties, lol.

Example: http://i.imgur.com/6pfObCg.png

We currently have the following buttons associated to lists:

Clan Chat - Visited clan chat - Clan ban list

This could be expanded to include:

Approved guests
-
Awaiting guests

Edit: I also suggested for F2P to be optionally excluded from guesting so the requests list won't become huge. Also, I think denying a guest should instantly remove their request to guest, as well as prevent them from making anymore guesting requests for 60 minutes (equals a kick, but with much less noise).

I could see this as a positive in some ways. We keep our clan chat closed almost all the time because we have run into some very 'not nice' previous members.

Perhaps if this could not be done, maybe those banned from the clan could be automatically denied entry? Just a thought.

This is already the case =) . Banned players can't access Clan Chat, even if it is guest-open. The issue though, is the ban list is limited to only 100 name (yes, it works differently than personal ignore list), also, with the ability to create many throwaway accounts; the damage would be already done, even if we managed to ban them.

A pre-entry confirmation; will completely prevent any kind of abuse, as long as right judgments/tactics are being used.

I see the issues with technological stuff, but it is doable, I totally support this! Based on that it could go along with permissions re-write, right? :) I don't like keeping our chat locked, so it usually isn't, but I think this would be a great addition because I think most clans occasionally run in to "problem guests"

Can't wait for the new permissions... Some clans have had trouble with banned players taken off their block list by having 'friends' in high enough ranks to do so.

No support for approve/deny before entering an open to guests chat, but support for an 'allowed' list.

To explain my stance, my clan receives guests in the chat very frequently, and I'm not always on to explain to people who the guests are. Unfortunately, we had a hostile run-in with a "clan griefing" group, so our members are on high alert and can be a little trigger-happy with kicking out guests. As a result, it's unlikely that my clan will have much tolerance for strangers in the CC, and will more likely than not just deny any names they don't recognize.

Now to explain my support for an approved guests list.....

This idea would be like a "White list," the opposite of the ban list. It would allow players on this list to be granted access to the clan chat channel as a guest, even if guesting is disabled.

I'd rather see IP's beeing banned from a clan, to prevent accounts joining the clan chat when their main is already banned.

Approved guestlist is pretty much the same as the whitelist suggested before. I don't remember why it wasn't added to the game, I guess difficulties with the code.

About you 2nd point, I don't think F2P should be treated any different than P2P. If the system would work with a minimal total level/xp instead of membership status it would be fine. For example, you could set your clan chat requirement to 1500+ total, making it impossible for spamaccounts to join.

@Fire Hawk154

For Clans which are P2P only; it makes sense to have an option to disallow F2P from accessing it. After all, the vast majority of throwaway accounts used for severe disruption; are F2P.

@Kentt

More open-minded tactics need to be maintained. Just because there was disruption attacks during a certain era; it doesn't mean that this will be the case for every single guest. Guests can be Private Messaged and talked with. They can be checked for their high-scores, forum profile, and Adventures Log. A lot you can know about them by doing minimum effort. After all; it is far easier for us to know the malicious ones and deny them, than it is for them to come with new account(s).

Speaking of Clans with persistent AND present abusive guests: It is simply a matter of time till the guests are purified by a majority. It only takes some patience and dominance over negative emotions to get the process done smoothly.
