So while going through my index I noticed something and it made me think of the controversy.
So as we all know (and if you don't you are about to) their is a cap of
members
accounts allowed in clans being 500.
However there are players who own multiple clans (using alts to have ownership) once their clan(s) reach that number of 500. However, isn't this a way just to get around this rule? If this is allowed, what is the point in having a 500 member cap limit? I am not saying that linked clans is wrong, I am just saying that if it is allowed (one person owning multiple clans and treating them as one) then why is there a cap to begin with?
I am eager to hear your debate on the subject.

A Clan being a group of people who wish to be together I see no issue here. If they wish to lead multiple large clans then good luck to them - they must be providing a service that people want (after all they join and stay)

Jw is there something that says we can't own more than 1 clan?
If a clan reaches the 500 member maximum, it's not against any rules for a second clan to be created as a sort-of "extension".
I always thought it was just a technical limitation, like Gluepot said above. Either that or maybe just the number that was decided upon as a reasonable maximum.
Considering how our chat system works, I've never understood the attraction of having 500 members other than to compensate for the fact that not nearly that many are ever online or active.
As far as multiple clan chat communities go, I view those as member "collectors". Do they really interact and, if they do, how do they?
At the risk of creating constituencies within the game, as opposed to clans, I personally would prefer the restriction be kept in place.
Clans should be built around quality, not quantity, and I actually feel that some form of restriction emphasises this. I honestly could not cope with having a Clan of 500, and to me, Clans in a game should feel personal - it's hard to be personal with 500 other people.

If memory serves me well from years ago, it wasn't so much so storage but rather the number, seeing as worlds can only have 2k people on it, 500 was a nice ish number to have as 1k would be possibly half the world in possibly 1 clan, so it was to increase diversity.
Granted I know some big clans which have 2 and some even 3 clans which the owner runs after a similar name and under an alt account as owner. This to my knowledge isn't against the rules, if you're clan is offering someone players want then they would obviously want to join it and not feel left out.

That depends on your definition of personal, I run a clan of 270 people, it was larger pre-eoc, I'd like to say it is very personalised as its a very diverse and mature chat where I haven't placed many restrictions as I trust my clan members to me mature and no need me to be nanny and we have become almost like a family after all the events and skype calls and such over the years, and if I hit the 500 limit and cleaned innactives and still had no space then I would make another clan under my ownership with the same values and atmosphere instilled.
