So, a lot has happened since we were disqualified from the cup. People from our clan were frustrated enough to do some very silly things - resulting in several forum mutes and even an in-game ban. I did not play a part in this and am not making this post to condone what these people did, but rather to try and explain from a designer perspective
why
I think this is the type of reactions it escalated into.
It all comes down to this specific thing I said when I made this thread:

The worst thing you can do as a designer is to punish players for something they didn't know they did wrong. Doing so will only leave players feeling like a great deal of injustice was done to them, regardless of whether your decision was justified or correct.
We had been preparing for this cup ever since we lost in 2014 - practicing at least twice a week (not including wars against other clans) and continuously doing everything we could to better ourselves and overcome our opponents. Needless to say lots of hours went into this, and at this point we are confident no clan in the game can beat our team (in P2P EOC, matched and fullout). We have already proven this on several occasions, but this was the time we anticipated all year to "make it official".
When we were told we were going to get disqualified, weeks before the cup even started, shit hit the fan. The amount of stress we went through for several months, worrying about recruit management and getting our warring team into the clan on time, is plain unhealthy. It feels like this entire cup was a battle of who gets DQed last, instead of being what it's supposed to be about - a fair battleground to decide which clan truly was the best this year. ¸¸¸¸¸¸„‹•°Member of
