I have been guesting in several clan chats since the 2017 plan was introduced. There is something very noticeable across all clans.

The majority of their members do not talk in their clan chat. Of course, the larger a clan the more activity it is going to have but across the board the ratio is very similar across all clans. I have even taken this research further and asked people who I noticed weren't talking in their clan chats on a consistent basis as to why. For those who responded the responses were along the same lines.

Most players in this game AFK. They do not actively take place in the community the game, or your clans have to offer. It is a growing trend among Runescape to do AFK'scape while also encouraging solo game play. IE--until much dispute from players, "The Ambassador" was supposed to be a solo only boss.

Another problem is that the work being done on clans is so minuscule that it is hardly noticed by us here on CLF. We know it isn't Matthe's fault, or Maz's. They both do what they can. It is discouraging to see content released into the game that goes away after two weeks (port sarim invasion, celebration of fire, meg cases, etc.), or becomes extremely low activity (Crucible, bounty hunter will most likely be too). These things are all working against us as clan leaders.

The fact that the idea of interacting with others on a MMO is dying, along with the lack of attention to clans--Everything seems to be against us. There are always the people who stay positive and try to tell everyone to not lose hope-but how exactly can you do that when the permission rewrite is not being developed, not to mention the mute player option, and everything we suggest we are told it isnt feasible or not enough dev time? Not to mention the clan rework didn't pass. It is time to wake up to reality.

I notice the same in mine Clan chat. Most of them aren't talking. Now i have to say that i don't talk much in the Clan chat aswell. Mostly because i'm AFK or doing something else.

I love to see some clan based updates soon. A Clan and Friends chat is something that is used by allot of players, but we can do so less with it.

Such events i use in my and the clans advantage, the clan i'm in is a social clan and we do not have any reqs besides being members. and during those events we are able to recruit allot of people in a small time. With new clan members our chat begin to be more active and it encouraged for others to talk aswell.

i wish for 2017 that there are some changes i can actually enjoy to do with the clan and maybe other clans and Friends chats.

IMO no clan update is going to remove AFK 'scape.

Everything now is made far to easy. One click this, or that, not even needing to move your mouse to do anything. It all lends itself to quick, easy exp that requires no concentration or interaction.

Perhaps only group bosses now need any sort of co-operation or attention, and those players who do that are likely using some sort of voice chat rather than the clan chat to communicate.

No doubt out to a wider vote, the majority of players would prefer this easy xp over having to actually "play" the game.

It's sad that the community aspect of the clan is crumbling around us, as much as we try to prevent it. It is what made this game so playable to start with

Afk'ing is nice because it allows you to chat. But if it's too afk, then people drift away from their computer monitors. I've found that skilling at portables is a great way to meet people who are interested in chatting, since you have to be present at your screen enough to do the next inventory of supplies, but you have enough time off in between to chat.

The past 3 skill n chill events I've hosted also have been successes. I have another TODAY at 23:30pm, at w100 Shantay Pass, and would love to see you all there ;) .

It'll also be on the in-game clock!!

And I wish there were more activities like those, and to be honest GWD2 being more mass friendly has been a really good update in terms of facilitating community activities. I wish skilling at the citadel was more popular because that's another such activity that's really good for chatting. I would really try to incentivize skilling at the citadel, perhaps even implementing mini skill plots in-game that you don't have to world hop for.

Netflix, other games, voice chat, and homework are my clannies biggest reasons for not talking. It's hard but I keep trying.

I also recruit the most obnoxious talkative people I can find just to keep the chat going ;)

Main problem is that this is no longer an "adventure" game as it once was, it was designed to pull you into the game and its environment the same as any great game, unfortunately this type of mentality has been long forgotten by developers up to the point where no one recognises as such instead we have a number crunching dress up sim where interaction to real life is too present around us.

You see for people to actually be engaged in the game they need to believe they are within a fantasy environment and we cant get that with things like pop up advertisements in our faces, broadcasts to live streams and events, people running around in bikinis doing the moonwalk, instant access to any location anywhere.

Its why open world games are becoming the most popular because theres an interesting world to explore.

On top of that gameplay interactions between players have taken a blow over the years due to caving into demands of players who want everything without having to do what is required, for example dungeoneering was a thriving community and a true piece of mmo content until the demands of solo experience killed off that side of the game.

OldSchool players still chat. And they got there simple guys who just play.

One Estonian clanleader kept his fc open for really long time, I think it can be 9 years. He plays EoC game but his fc is nowadays full of OS people. Fc Amuuritiger, he was leading clan Crystal. All Estonian players are welcome to visit. But who really fill the chat, they most are from OS.

OS people tell their levels, still, like old days (:
At least this guys do.

We used to tell all big drops and lvls at clan chat too...
We had 99 partys!
Now it gets broadcasted, nothing special.

Also, EoC players, what I see around are busy or if not busy then AFK. Smashing keyboard killing bosses, at Teamspeak, watching steams or just relaxing, away. Sometimes I am too. EoC game got too many promotions, seasonal events, plus dailys, weeklys, monthlys, endlessly.

Typing while combat can kill you.

Also, it is a lot about mentality. Get the comp back, get trim back. Get skill pet. Achievements, all kind.

I can't blame developers from bringing solo in to game.

Raids aren't solo. Go to Raid FC, be there some random hours. Not dailys reset hours. You'll see few players trying to get in to team when nobody hosts. Oh well... This is when you can't solo but not enough players join you to cover roles and go.

Random matchmaking is hellish, it doesn't cover roles it doesn't count kc.

Why no one is using auto matchmaking for dungeon floor? It had no roles like: keyer, historically keyer was most important.

When you design a team activity you need to be sure it is popular. New raids bosses as I heard are not getting released anytime soon because raids ain't popular enough.

It is nice to design team activity when player feels there are hundreds around with the same passion, same interest. Solo thing is less risky, np if it dies out. Who cares.

I remember when I had daily tasks to play Stealing Creations with my alt acc and build barricades. Sometimes there was no one else...

Majority of players are older than before. Loyal RuneScape fans. Back then, old chatty days we had a lot of teenager boys in the clan, they were always up for a contest or teaming and they made teaming to contest too (:

PK was a thing, it was direct and agressive, adrenaline wasn't a bar you see filling in the screen: it was something you felt in your veins!

I can't say like contest ended but this little nagging, boasting, chatting, typing out drops and lvls it died out at EoC.

Pushing too much solo onto an MMO wasnt exactly the way forward. Examples of this have shown to kill big parts of the game.
