It entirely depends on what you think the Clan XP total is. If it was meant to be the XP of every player who has been a member of that clan earned while in the clan that would be one thing, a historical view. But that is not what that total is. It is the amount of XP earned by current clan members since joining the clan - a much more current figure, that represents the stability of the clan and the present membership.

Yes I understand exactly how the experience is handled currently. What I am referring to is problems with this type of accounting process. What ends up happening is quite the opposite of a picture of current clan prominence and stability, in fact.

The fact that experience "leaves" with players yet stays with those still in clans causes leaders to try to hold onto as many inactive accts as possible with high clan experience. This leads to many of the problems we see with clans so against player movement. Clan leaders are forced to play the numbers game should they need to create a spot for a new player by eliminating an inactive with a high xp total.

Further, there are many clans that are largely "dead" in current reality because all or a great number of their player base earned huge amounts of xp while in clan and then maxed or otherwise quit playing.

To me, a far better picture of a clan and it's membership and history would be to allow clan xp to remain just what it is described to be. Experience earned while people are in clan. All the work people do while in clan does not simply vanish when they leave a clan nor does it actually stay if someone stops playing and contributing. Yet clan leaders keep the account simply for past contribution.

On one hand you are saying past contribution shouldn't count, we only want to see a picture of the present membership in a clan, but sadly this is not what we get in reality.

Thanks for responding. :)

I'd have to disagree Scott. The top clans are the ones gaining the most experience as a group. Over time, the inactive clans will lose people (xp) due to no leadership/environment for a better clan, and will have bad gains as a clan overall.

The amount of clan xp to get in the top 20 continues to grow everyday and is no where near at a stopping point. This means if your clan is barely gaining xp compared to the average clan xp/hr rates around you, your clan will be passed (if filled with inactive members or not).

There are many defenses of your perspective that hoarding inactives is a bad thing. For Example: It's a risk to kick someone who hasn't been playing much with 200m clan xp to make room for a recruit. By making this choice you are hoping the new member gains more then that person did or greater at some point in time.

You want highscores to be a representation of best clans at this very moment. That's actually not fair because who are you to decide that the gains of yesterday are better than the present?

It takes years to get in the top because those clans are well...years old. They deserve to reserve the right to hold on to previous impacting members that at one point in time helped them get to the clan's current rank today.

All I suggest is to invest a great deal of time for your clan's kicking system/tracker. Your clan will have much better gains if you kick members that pose the least amount of clan xp risk to replace with a new recruit.

-This thread has been bumped by me, the OP, intending to restart the discussion-

It's interesting that this has come up time and time again since I've become active again.

People who rejoin immediately without ever intending to leave or were misled to leave should keep their clan XP.

I agree with this thread a lot, and believe this would be a very worthwhile update to pursue and implement.

I know that I'll "Join" worlds from the clan list, for example when i'm at the citadel fetching an avatar and want to return to world 134, our homeworld. Right underneath "Join" is "Kick/ban," and I'm really careful not to accidentally kick/ban someone from the clan, but misclicks can happen, and on the converse, people do leave clans on accident.

Did you also know you can leave your clan channel? I didn't know that, and right up until I found out, I was super scared that I'd unintentionally leave my clan completely, since I've never heard of the clan chat referred to as the clan channel (this was before I received broadcasts that "suchandsuch has joined the clan channel, and they were guesting). Which illustrates another reason why accidents are so fathomable: all the buttons have such ambiguous descriptions.

I can agree the most with the first reason (1) Wrongly or accidentally kicked)
- It has happend that an admin+ of ours kicked the clan member with the most clan xp to hurt our clan highscore and left after. So I can agree that for that reason it should be kept for few days.

Regarding Phised/hacked accounts, I think that persons who get Hacked/Phised often do not protect their account enough or do things that are against rules like buying gp/botting. We always put the people who got hacked on our suspicious list but they can return. It is indeed a shame to lose the clan xp.

And we also have had a lot of people who return shortly after they left.

Thank you all :) It's one of those rare QOL updates for clan's that we'd really appreciate, in my opinion.
