­­Hi Clan Leaders,

I noticed in the recent thread about clan broadcasts that many people would like something to track changes that happen to the clan list.

I thought I'd try making it using google spreadsheets and apps script to make a logger for your clan to see who joins and leaves the clan, and also what rank changes occur.

Features:
- Gets a list of your clan's clanlist daily, including names, ranks, xp gained and kills.
- Shows the change in clan size, who has left, joined, been ranked up and been ranked down since the last update.

To use it, you must have a google account.

Instructions for getting started:
1. Make a copy of the spreadsheet
2. Go to the settings sheet and type the name of your clan in the cell next to 'Clan Name:'
3. Next, click on 'Admin Tools' in the menu bar and 'Activate Logger'.
4. Continue and authorize.
5. Repeat step 3 now that it has been authorized.

The logger should then be activated, and if successful, will track your clan's member list daily at between 00:00 and 01:00 GMT.

The most recent update is stored in the 'Current Clan List' sheet.

The history of changes is stored in the 'Clan Log'.

FAQ
Q: What happens when someone in my clan changes their name?
A: It will show that they left as their previous name and joined as their new name. Sorry for any confusion, I'd like to improve this in future.

Q: Can I edit the sheet and add columns?
A: The safest way to use the sheet is just for reference, but feel free to experiment.

Q: How do I manually update it?
A: In the menu bar of the spreadsheet,
Admin Tools -> Manual Update

Q: Why didn't it automatically update?
A: Occasionally, for a reason I haven't found yet, fetch requests sometimes fail which also leaves a message in the inbox of the owner's mail. They shouldn't happen often, but if they do, I would suggest setting an email filter for them. You can manually trigger an update if you notice it's missing.

Q: How do I hide a column or row?
A: Select the header of the row or column, then right click -> hide column/row.

Q: What's ClanLogger?

Q: How do I update the Library?
A:
1. Open the spreadsheet.
2. Click on Tools -> Script editor...
3. Click on Resources -> Libraries...
4. Change the version of ClanLogger to the latest version.
5. Refresh the spreadsheet.

Gave it a quick look and this looks like a really useful tool, unfortunately due to the death of our clan i wont have much use for it but it seems very nice, i'll run it through the new clan and see what results it picks up.

A suggestion would also be possibly have a bar for whether the clanmate is p2p or f2p, we operated as a purely p2p dg clan however in our early days we ended up flooding over into 2 clans as we didnt kick anyone. While we were active if this tool existed a section for membership status would have been nice, particularly around eoc as many members quit then and the only real sign they left other than inactivity was them going f2p. Just a thought, i know many clans do not discriminate by membership status or prefer not to kick for inactivity at all, it was just how our clan ran.

­­Checking membership status is possible, it could increase the daily lookup time function by a few minutes though since that information isn't accessible purely from the members lite list I use.

It's definitely worth having so I'll put that in my next version.

High frequency requests through apps script turned out not to be reliable enough for checking membership status through scraping the clanmates web page. To request to add membership to the clan API, try posting a suggestion in the Website & Forums section.

Currently, I don't think I'll be able to make major improvements to the spreadsheet, however it has been a useful tool for my clan and hopefully other clans may also find it useful.

The following is a list of features that people showed interest in, although I'm not currently working on them. I'd like to invite other clan leaders to have a go at using spreadsheet functions or google apps script to see what can be done with a bit of customization.
- Column for membership
- Daily updating clan hiscores
- Improved menu options
- More convenient system for updating
- System to account for name changes
- System to allow custom notes on clan mates
- System that notifies of inactive players
- Graph generator for player XP over time
- Improved alternative interface
- Customization for appearance
- Improvements to settings
- Colour coding ranks and including images
- Improved instructions and notifications
- Hourly list updates
- Cleaner, more compact display
