Workshop Joke Suggestion: the endless project

You know how IRL there are projects and things that people spend years .. .even decades ... working on but it never seems to go anywhere?

This is just something you keep sinking Construction supplies into, but nothing really changes. (Could add joke dialogue above it like the Beach Event Dungeoneering Hole.)
You still get the XP for using the planks, limestone, magic stones, etc on it.

1 construction material is removed from your inventory at a time as you slowly and continuously work on it. Feeding the eldritch abomination of a blackhole item by item.

I am leaving a proposed update for the skill hall in here. If you're interested I can provide you something similiar for other existing rooms - mostly intended to make them more useful - or useful in the first place. Aim is to make the POH a place where players want to be - even at lower levels - as well as construction to be 120 ready.

Skill Hall

+ The rune and RuneFest cases are aligned onto one side of the room

+
NEW
: Silvery jewellery box - 4 Tiers:
Built in increments. Allows infinite teleports to any location covered by the pieces of jewellery.

Basic - Level 27 - Bolt of cloth, Steel bar, Ring of respawn(5)x4
Fancy - Level 35 - Basic box, Silver dust x5, Opal x5, Sapphire x5, Traveller's Necklace(5)x4
Ornate - Level 42 - Fancy box, Silver dust x10, Jade x5, Emerald x5, Enlightened Amulet(5)x4
Glorious - Level 50 - Ornate box, Red topaz x5, Ruby x5, Digsite pendant(5)x4

+
NEW
: Golden jewellery box - 4 Tiers:
Built in increments. Allows infinite teleports to any location covered by the pieces of jewellery.

Basic - Level 58 - Bolt of Cloth, Orichalcite bar, Games Necklace(8)x3, Ring of duelling(8)x3
Fancy - Level 68 - Basic box, Gold leaf, Skills necklace(4)x5, Ring of Wealth(4)x5
Ornate - Level 80 - Fancy box, Gold leaf x2, Amulet of Glory(4)x5, Combat bracelet(4)x5
Glorious - Level 94 - Ornate box, Magic stone, Luck of the Dwarves, Grace of the Elves - Allows teleports to either attuned skill portal.

+
Additional Tier
: Rune case

Rune case 3 - Construction 41, Runecrafting 90 - Teak plank x2, Molten glass x2, Law Rune, Death Rune, Blood Rune, Soul Rune

+ Armour Stand

Players can now construct an empty armour stand from 2 Oak (Level 28), Teak (Level 48) or Mahogany (Level 68) Planks. Players can now mount and dismount any eligible piece of armour as they like without having to remove the stand. Existing stands work as oak stands with their respective armours mounted.

I'd probably suggest a 3 tier Jewelry Box just to simplify what devs need to do.
This would require teleports to be shoehorned in a little more and probably have to have the highest tier jewelry box at a higher level.

and oofff on the the suggested cost for a Glorious Box.

The Tier 4 Luck Relic is one thing for Archaeology ... but at least the Luck is yours any time you want it and you reduce switchscape by 1.

It's basically about the teleports - not the luck functionality - as well as having a meaningful construction progression. The golden box basically is inspired from OS - just fixing the usual OS POH mistakes of constructions levels below 70 being widely irrelevant, it being placed in a currently fairly useless room instead of a new one and the glorious box extension on top of that. The silvery box exists seperately since that jewellery certainly is lower levelled - and Jagex didn't felt like putting it into one box, since it would have overloaded the interface (which basically is a fair point) - but yeah - hence a second box.

That's basically something you'll see more often from me - adjusted OS features included in existing rooms, rather than new ones - since I just see it as better to fix the foundation first (as I said - construction there isn't really interesting before you start hitting the 70s - rather 80s. Sure I also have features for that level range then - but first I want construction to make low and medium players wish for more - and that works best by giving them a taste of what is coming up.

Regarding four tiering - I generally just think it feels cleaner when every upgrade unlocks a similar number of things - it also again allows to make use of more levels - as said, it's also about getting the skill ready for a potential level 120 extension - part of that is not just unlocking something at almost every level, it's having almost every level to be meaningful in some way. It isn't 'simpler' to implement as three tiers compared to four - especially seing they did that weird 7-tiering for shelves in the kitchen back in the day for instance - which does not even follow some clear progression at times. At most it would reduce their design effort - but at the same time it would reduce the use of the level scope.

As for the costs - it's a useful thing - and thus would be something players could consider if they want that functionality or not - I personally would re-invest into a second GotE to build the glorious box to free up that slot for treasure trails for instance. It certainly is more reasonable than building that purely cosmetic throne for 25 magic stones. Also something OS has brought up to eleven: There is more than enough stuff that eats onyxes like candy - or even one hotspot requiring you to outright pay 100m coins solely for the sake of showing them off as a pile of coins. I won't suggest stuff like that - but I can understand if players would want to have options solely to show their wealth - it's basically the original essence of construction - being a huge gold - or seing OS now - material sink.

If the glorious box would be too expensive for you to get, you still just could stick to an ornate one, you're not missing out on that much in comparison - just the cherry on the cake - three more teleports - keldagrim and whatever you've bound your max guild portals to. Instead of a LotD it also could have been an HSR - but I think it still should be reasonable to build - even if you have to work quite a bit for it - which two alchemical onyxes still should be.

Of course - while not part of this specific post, I'll have something to help players protecting their investments. Basically the OS POH feature to allow players to change placement and orientation of their rooms retroactively. A mistake done shouldn't cost potentially hundreds of millions to ammend it.

I love your suggestion! Fits well with mine that I already proposed about the workshop, and that could actually be useful in terms of creating jewelry for only ourselves.
Let's look at it this way...the PoH only being given a few quests and some utility makes me wonder honestly why this hasn't received any more love since the last quest released.

After scrolling through the skill guide, re-reading on the quest additions, changes, and such...I'm just like "what?...when we getting more love for this GP drain skill?"
However, there's an issue. Protean Planks and it's portable counterpart taking over the way players train the skill now.
All the while a bank saver, it's completely devaluing PoH and certain rooms.
So...yea.

Glad to see you liked it, but I really must say I highly disagree with you saying, that the POH is worthless as a training method. If your aim is speed (and cash and your care for your hands are irrelevant - especially the latter was the reason why alternative training methods were important - and we actually got three working ones right now) you can achieve way higher xp rates by building prawn brokers compared to building mahogany tables at the station or doing mahogany contracts - prawnbrokers are 650-900k xp/h, the workbench doesn't exactly specify, but I can confirm it's certainly a fair bit lower than that and contracts are worth ~461k - under the assumption you already unlocked your outfit so you're able to teleport from contract to contract. Sure - they are cheaper and they won't hurt your hand as much - but that comes with much lower xp rates. And of course - proteans do exist, but that doesn't hurt the POH since they're used equally for all three activities.

But that basically is the reason why I wouldn't bother about the training aspect of construction anymore - it was desperately in need of being fixed, that happened now in both games (you certainly can say something is off, when even OS bothered doing something about it, since this game isn't really known for the concept of QoL). If anything needs to be changed it would be the fact, that our xp rates shouldn't depend on a level 40 material, so something like an elder plank, which would be used in the POH from level 60 and for contracts from level 80 wouldn't be too shabby. Otherwise - it's time to give us the cool stuff making the POH being awesome for once. Really awesome, not just something, that always just was intended for destroying money. I can do that as well - but I will offer the players something for that.

I am going to post the remainder of my list. Still mostly fixes to existing rooms (and I genuinely think that most of them will find at least niche use after this), but I also got something entirely new.

Garden

+
Additional Tier
: Centrepiece

Superior exit portal - Level 90 - Elder rune bar x10, Magic stone - Allows POH access from any POH portal, as well as leaving the POH to any POH portal via an interface accessed with a right click option. Leaving via the POH UI or using the left click option still will send players to the actual location of the POH. Players need to have advanced portals unlocked by themselves, but are not restricted by the progress of the POH Owner otherwise (i.e. Guests can leave to a POH portal the Owner can't use). Also available in the formal garden.

Kitchen

+
Fix
: Remove the delay from using the sink. Allow players to activate the tap with a right-click option to play the animation instead.
+
Fix
: Change larder and shelves to Make-X interfaces to streamline the process of receiving multiple cooking ingredients.

+
Additional Tier
: Larder

Mahogany larder - Level 63 - Mahogany Plank x8, Bolt of Cloth x2, Gold leaf x1 - Provides unlimited amounts of tea leaves, milk, eggs, flour, potatoes, garlic, onions, cabbages, tomatoes, cooking apples, bananas, nuts, raw beef, cheese, cream, butter and chocolate bars.
