A white dwarf is at least a million times less dense than a neutron star (based on the figures I'm getting from research, W*kipedia says a million, another source says a white dwarf has a density of ~ 10^5 or 10^6 g/cc whereas a neutron star is ~10^14 g/cc, which is a difference of between a billion times and a hundred million times, and so on and so forth).
That said, they're basically identical in function and identical in scientific laughability (as, like you said, I'm sure Sith will succinctly point out at some point; for instance, how are we even managing to move and fire something that weighs
that much
? Ironically, I actually have an explanation for that, of all things).
The thing is, of course, once you create FTL technology, (thereby giving you a method of creating beyond-infinite energy if you
really
want to, amongst other things), physical possibility is thrown out of the window. Which we all know and don't particular bother with anymore.
