HFPE
On an island off the west coast of Nera City, six figures stand around a circle in a cave. They are all nondescript, nobody would look twice at them, but someone who pays close attention might feel an energy radiating from them, mixing with the life of the island itself.
"The time is seconds away," speaks one of the figures, a bearded man wearing a hoodie.
"The portals are open," announce the two oldest figures, two aged women.
"And here we go."
A blinding pillar of light bursts out from the circle, filling the dim cave with whiteness. It spreads over the ceiling and walls of the cave, until nothing else is visible. Then it begins to fade, and a lone figure can be seen crouching in the centre of the circle. He slowly stands up and brushes blue hair out of his face, surveying the assembled crowd. He lifts his hand, and cracks begin forming on the edge of the ring, as if it were made of glass. When the lines reach the outer edge of the ring, it shatters into thousands of pieces, and the white light subsides, with a small sighing sound, as if the cave was letting out a breath that it had held for hundreds of years.
The figure stands there, surveying the assembled crowd.
"It's been too long."
"Welcome back."
The figure walks out of the cave and into the sunlight, unflinching. Moving to the water, he makes a motion that should have created an icy bridge, but instead only creates a few small ripples.
"In order to abide by the Interdict, you cannot keep your powers fully. For now you have but the tiniest of trickles, although they will grow over time."
"That's unfortunate, but I will have to make do. Are there any artifacts in the cave?"
"Sadly, no, they were all destroyed."
"Hmm. I hid a small cache in the City for an occasion like this. I'll see if I can retrieve it."
