Update: Nop has recreated the new sticky. Thanks Nop :D

(Previous first post now on the second post)

So the general consensus seems that a merge is not the right course of action?

It's also true that Long has a post on the first page with a few links.

So now the two questions are:

1. Do we want a new BD#

2. If we want a new BD#, what would we want changed?
———> Bulletin Board type thing (news about the community/thread links/etc)
———> How long should the guide be? Shorter? Longer? The same?
——————> Perhaps a one post "crash course", followed by something more in depth?
———> Icey's idea of a history of ASCII. I've always liked this idea, but I'm not so sure it has a place on the BD#.(r)
------> Logo request form? - now that the clan logos thread is no longer existant

Thoughts?

Please see post above as conversation has shifted to that :)

Hello everyone!

After speaking with a number of people including the Forum Moderation team I've brought up the idea of regenerating the stickied ASCII guides with the potential to combine them into one big resource. After the sudden influx in activity within the ASCII community what better way to further take us forward by initiating a community project to bring ourselves forward than to provide potential newer players with an updated resource to get them into ASCII artwork?

There's no doubt that ASCII has always been a part of the RuneScape Official Forums. I want to reach out to the rest of you, far and wide, to generate ideas and offer guideance and support for this new project. The idea is to combine the Bored? Draw #ere thread and the ~ Guide to Signature Making ~ thread. Signatures are a niche of ASCII artwork. This is the perfect opportunity for us all to be able to put our heads together to come up with a brand new thread.

So far the general idea for a revitalised thread would be to format it in a way such as:
Page 1: General information useful in both large pieces of artwork and signatures, such as introductions to formatting tools and BBCodes, as well as the forum censor.
Page 2: Guide to ASCII artwork.
Page 3: Guide to Signatures
Page 4: Colour chart in colour order, to make it easier to find similar colours.

Of course the above is just a general idea. I hope that we can get as many of you will get involved in this project as we can get! Post away with your ideas:
- What is vital to include?
- How should we present it?

Please bear in mind that we don't have to reinvent the wheel, and we can use existing resources for the majority of this project (take the signature guide for example). Any additions or subtractions though, let's discuss!

Not that my opinion even matters, but just leave them be. We don't need any new threads here. If you want to clear up sticky space, then remove forum fight, this or that, and the count b4 mod threads. Absolutely no reason for those to be stickied in the first place.

Everyone's opinions matter, Cyanid. One of the main reasons for merging the two threads, is not just because of clearing up sticky space, but for convenience. It would be far more practical to have a complete guide to ASCII in one thread, covering all types of ASCII, including signatures.

As for the other stickies, they are very popular forum games. Stickying a forum game means it will not fall off the first few pages and potentially forgotten about. It's good to have a handful of familiar forum games that will stick around no matter what. :)

Hmmm… So honestly, I don't really know what my opinion is. I'm inclined to agree somewhat with Cyanide. I'm not sure if there's much benefit for merging the threads. I think that both threads have a sort of history and that merging them might further detach us from our more active past. A decent amount of people who have been on the forums for a while know what the BD# and Guide to Sig Making are, but if we change them, do we risk obscuring our existence even more? But maybe I'm just being overly nostalgic and change averse.

Another possible issue. Some people are only interested in learning how to make a simple siggy for themselves. Others simply want to doodle. If merged, what would the title be? "ASCII Art [something]" That may turn new people away. I think signatures and logos are significant enough to each own their own sticky. I've met many, many people on here over the years that are only interested in one or the other.

I'm just not entirely seeing any definite benefit. All I'm seeing atm are potential issues. I'd like to hear from some of the older artists, more established than us here. Regardless of the outcome, I just want to make sure whatever comes out of this is the result of a 100% community effort, not of just a few. Whatever the entire community thinks is best, I'm game for, and will do my best to contribute.

Sorry about playing devil's advocate :P These are just my first thoughts, I'd love to get a discussion going here.

Remove the sticky from the two most popular threads in the forum? No. If anything, merge the two aforementioned threads, and place the new one in Website and Forums, where it is better suited.

Breath Mint, ASCII art has been in forum games for as long as I can remember. Probably forever. It would make absolutely no sense to move it anywhere except maybe into a forum of its own (which isn't going to happen). It makes enough sense in forum games, so why not.

If it were moved, both the ASCII community and forum games would suffer. Both would lose a great deal of activity.

Edit: That being said, I have nothing against the other stickies. All hallmark features of the F-games. Although I do miss "Type with your _____"
