NOTE: this is a long series of posts. go to the previous page to see it from the beginning

jack: "Fascinating, but I got one question that kept gnawing on me. Why wasn't I there to stop the invasion?"

barlor 2.0: "What is your name, and where do you come from?"

jack: "I'm Jack, from Lumbridge. Member of the Legend's guild, savior of Gielinor."

barlor 2.0: "Quite a prestigious title. I fear I cannot recall someone of that name with such importance. If you made it to the Legend's guild, I would have known. Perhaps you weren't in a position to prevent the disaster, or maybe you never existed at all..."

sarah: "What about me?"

barlor 2.0: "Your name?"

sarah: "Sarah, from Ardougne. I reunited the two halves of the city, discovered the truth behind the plague and helped tie a bond between humans and elves."

barlor 2.0: "Another impressive accomplishment I never heard of, but I still have information regarding it. According to rumors from our Ardougnean brethren, a young woman went to the underground pass, but was never seen or heard from again."

sarah: "...what?"

christina: "If I may be so bold, do you know what happened to me?"

barlor 2.0: "Ah, I know more about you."

christina: "No good news either I suppose."

barlor 2.0 "Unfortunately not. The Varrockian refugees were particularly startled. They said that after the zombie invasion, most survivors found by Zemouregal were killed on the spot. When he saw you, however, he instead dragged you with him to the castle. What happened afterwards was never known."

christina covers her mouth in shock

barlor 2.0: "Perhaps I spoke too much."

jack: "No. It's fine. At least now we know what happened."

barlor 2.0: "In that case, follow me to the surface, back to Rellekka. That is where I cast the spell last time, and where we should cast it again."

the group meets back at rellekka. everyone is gathered around my alternate self. sarah seems to have gotten over the initial shock, as energetic as ever

me: "Sarah, if I may have a question."

sarah: "Of course, Barly. What is it?"

me: "First of all, I would like you to stop calling me that."

sarah: "Why? Barly the burly. Has a nice ring to it."

i look at duncan, who is barely able to contain his laughter

me: "Look, it compromises my station, understood? I know of your penchant for nicknames, but not me."

sarah: "*sigh* I see."

me: "But back to my question. I know you are energetic, but you seem livelier than ever. What triggered that?"

sarah: "Oh, that? Simple. Somehow all the gloom in this team has gotten together with none of the glee. SOMEone here has to even it out. That's why we're world guardians, right? Balance."

me: "Well, then balance your bow on your finger if you care so much."

sarah: (You say that like I've never done it before.)

barlor 2.0: "Anyway, shall we start this teleportation?"

christina: "If you ask me, it's nice to have a casual conversation in such a bleak situation."

barlor 2.0: "Of course, but time is of the essence here. While we talk, people suffer. Time to begin the teleportation spell."

barlor 2.0 pulls out a couple runes. more specifically, two law runes, two cosmic runes and two astral runes. he lightly tosses them in the air and does a quick hand wave. the runes go in a lean hexagonal shape and disappear, spawning a portal

barlor 2.0: "Quickly, enter. The portal only lasts for half a minute, and we end up back here in my timeline."

EDIT: huh, forgot ashlin was here. we could say he moved with the rest of the team, or he can stay behind if the real ashlin is not keen on being active

Me: Zombies ehh... I used to train by killing zombies in an empty dimension.

*I pull out a crossbow.*

Me: Well time to kill some walkers.

*I rush through the portal.*

Me: Zombies. Are they weak to anything on Gielenor? Light doesn't seem to be an 'element' here, but I suppose fire might be an option. I'll probably find out.

I pull out some kind of magical device and send a message to someone, before stepping briskly through the portal.

as duncan steps through the portal, it closes shortly after

barlor 2.0: "Welcome to my world."

the area does not look much different at first, but it has an eerie tone to it. all the buildings have been torn or burnt down and the ground reeks of corpses. zombies and skeletons are roaming the area and one saw the party, who is promptly put down. creatures that resemble predator birds fly high in the air, eager to swoop down on anyone weak

barlor 2.0: "Quickly, follow me."

everyone readies for battle. sarahs bow, being made of crystal, seems to generate its own string, and the arrows apparently manifest from thin air. we fight our way out of the town and move on to this version of keldagrim. a dead zombie can be seen near the entrance, with its head caved in and we shortly after see the dwarf who did it

dwarf: "You came with reinforcements? Great job. Get inside now."

as we enter the cave, the fortification is obvious. the entrance has about a dozen guards, with multicannons and an alarm system should the initial defenses get breached. we move on to the river, where a bridge has been built for easy access and escape. sarah notices a fuse coming out of the bridge, guessing that it is rigged to blow up should enemies come this far. we finally reach the city itself. there seems to be more guards than citizens wandering the area. we enter the central building and gather at the meeting table. as i scan the area, i see the alternate version of my own wife

dwarven king: "What? This is not enough. You were sent to gather reinforcements and come back with... six people? We need an army! Two, maybe!"

barlor 2.0: "I understand your concerns, but these are no mere soldiers. A small elite force is worth far more than an entire army. We must be subtle about this."

dwarven king: "Subtlety? Hah, that Zemouregal sees everything. Hiding anything is pointless. He probably even already knows we're speaking."

barlor 2.0: "Now you are simply paranoid. I put my faith in them, and you know I do not trust easily. We need a small, capable force for this. In fact, these people are renowned heroes who have each shaped the future of their Gielinor their own way. The man you see here is the reason the other world is currently not overrun by zombies."

dwarven king: "Very well, but first I must hear from every one of you. this is a serious mission."

jack: "I'm Jack. I have no area of expertise, but I'm capable at any job given to me."

christina: "I'm Christina, gifted priestess and mage. My faith grants me great power."

sarah: "I'm Sarah, master assassin and hunter. I also have a knack for getting to places I'm not supposed to be in..."

duncan: "I'm Duncan. My expertise lies in pyromancy, but I'm capable of many other types of magic, utility or combat."

ashlin: "I'm Ashlin. My technology gives me an edge in combat and reconnaissance. I have eyes everywhere."

dwarven king: "Quite a varied team. Perhaps you truly ARE ready for this. But first, you there. In the full body armor. Who are you?"

me: "..."

jack: "He's a warrior. He doesn't talk much, but his swordsmanship is without equal, he takes hits like nothing and thrives even in the coldest environments."

dwarven king: "Very well. You're good to go. Prepare yourself in the armory, then be off."

astrid 2.0: "Be safe, Dear."

barlor 2.0: "You know I will."

we leave the meeting room and get private time in the armory, gearing for the long trip to varrock

jack: "So what are we doing?"

barlor 2.0: "Our mission is to infiltrate Varrock and take down Zemouregal. We hope that his defeat will make the monsters more bearable and the world salvageable. If we're lucky, we can also rescue this world's Christina."

christina: "Do you truly think I'm still alive here?"

barlor 2.0: "If you were not killed on sight, you're obviously being kept for something, though I find myself wondering if death would be better."

christina: "What do you mean?"

barlor 2.0: "If you ask me, a life with Zemouregal is hardly better than death. We should tread carefully once we find her. She might be broken by now should she still be alive."

everyone takes time to polish, reforge or patch up their equipment. sarah grabs an elder shortbow for more conventional use and wears it across her torso. She then takes a quiver and fills it with dragon arrows, attaching it to her back. she then reverts her crystal bow to a seed and pockets it

jack: "What you do need a second bow for?"

sarah: "A crystal bow can only be used for combat the way it's made. Sometimes arrows can be used for more than just shooting."

jack: "If you say so. What about food?"

sarah: "I bagged a bear and plucked some berries on my way here. We should be good to go for a while."

jack: "Good. Everyone! Prepare to depart!"

the group leaves keldagrim through the same cavern. we are now at the bridge between sinclair mansion and the fremennik province

jack: "How should we get to Varrock?"

sarah: "Considering the state of this world, it would be safest to walk, and perhaps avoid any major cities we stumble upon."

sarah pulls out a map of gielinor

sarah: "We should go past Seer's Village and see how Catherby is doing, maybe even catch some fish if we're lucky. Then we scale White Wolf Mountain here, find a way past the gate near taverley should it be still standing then we trek through the forest north of Falador. That's our last chance to get more food. We should also build a quick shelter at each stopping point, so i brought an axe, some rope and sleeping bags. If we're quick, we should make it to Catherby before dusk falls."

"the dark world" from SSBB (originally the legend of zelda: a link to the past) starts to play

i have not planned anything major until varrock, so feel free to make your own events during the trek

While everyone else is getting prepared in the armoury, I wander off to a secluded corner. Conjuring a small orb of light and a floating easel and set of tools such as rulers, I begin making careful sketches and diagrams. I soon go and regroup with the others.

Me: Well then, I’m ready whenever you are.

I bring up the rear of the group as we make our way to the bridge near the Seers’ Village, and listen to Sarah’s plan.

Me: What if the villages have been attacked or are hiding enemies? We’re not exactly the most inconspicuous adventuring party around, we’re sure to be noticed if we go by the main roads and paths, even they’re not big cities. Is there any way we could scout the area ahead without having to actually send someone? Some kind of spell or device maybe. Or I guess we could just be really really careful. Or not. Stealth levels are frustrating anyway.

Me: Well thanks to my FFA cloak as far as everyone in the overtaken towns would be concerned I'm an elite black knight.

*Everyone in the group looks slightly confused and are trying to figure out how this works.*

Me: I'll explain on the way. But while everyone was talking a killed a group of black knights all of whom happen to be everyone's exact hight and build funnily enough.

*I hand everyone strangely clean suits of black armour.*

Me: Now that solves that problem. Well until we reach Taverly.

Christina: What's in Taverly?

Me: Well I spoke to some locals and apparently the trolls have taken over and are eating any human who comes close.

Barlor2: I've seen it. It isn't pretty.

*A horde of dagganoths can be seen charging at us.*

Me: And then there's that.

*I summon enough swords to kill all the dagannoths.*

Balor2: Never did find a way to stop them.

Me: Well any way if there are no further problems lets get a move on.

*I see a giant dark lord in the distance where priff should be.*

Me: That's the second biggest shadow creature I've seen.

jack: "Huh, that's strangely convenient. Thanks anyway."

as jack and i don the armor, sarah just looks at hers skeptically, while christina puts the platelegs in front of her own legs, wondering how to wear it over a long skirt

sarah: "What? I can't fight in this. It's too heavy and cumbersome."

jack: "If everything goes smoothly, there's no need to fight."

sarah: "But Jack, you know I can sneak around on my own. Take our meeting as proof."

me: "I knew you were coming."

sarah: "That doesn't count. You sense everything."

jack: "I know your capabilities, but I don't want to take any chances. Let's see how this goes, and if things go awry, you can ditch the armor. How about it?"

sarah: "Ugh, fine."

skip forward a few minutes. both women are wearing the armor they were given, but are clearly uncomfortable. christina had to fold up her skirt just to fit, exposing her bare legs to the cold armor, and is weighed down. sarah is wearing the hood on her outfit underneath, with her hair tucked in

sarah: "I can't take this. The armor's so heavy and rigid. I don't think I can even run in this. I can't believe you never take yours off, Barlor."

me: "And... on goes the helmet."

sarah: "Ow... now I can't see a thing. Are you sure there's no way?"

jack: "Likely, but this seems to be the safest option."

sarah: "Blending in among enemies we never even met is safe?"

christina: "Wait. Do you remember the orb I always carried? We could use that to watch over the village."

christina pulls out an orb of occulus and gives it to sarah, who briefly takes off her helmet and uses the orb to study the nearby village
