A dream, or a resurgence of madness? Gideon Steelwrought had precious little time to consider this, something he was far from used to. There had always been time for him to think, to consider, to search for the truth by examining his own mind, but on this day there was, for the first time in nearly two centuries, no time to think.

What was happening before him could not be a dream nor a hallucination. His mind, long since used to the shadows that surrounded him, had been unable to remember the light and warmth of sunlight for far too long. But this... This light, it was not the faint glow of his eyes, it brought into focus the dusty tomb he had always thought he knew better than he knew himself. The many inches of cold stone that he had traced a thousand times over now illuminated, visible to his enraptured gaze.

He rose, not remembering when he had fallen, and stared at the crumbling wall. Sounds that were not formed by his skeletal fingers on the stone walls reached him, and had he been able the former Warlord most likely would have wept at the beautiful sensations reaching him. He raised a hand to his helm, urged to remove it, to feel the rays that fell across him... But stopped as the figure became known to him.

It was no mortal tool that demolished his imprisonment, but the dark and powerful magic of an unfamiliar entity. Undead, Unhallowed... It had been far too long for him to recognize the exact branch of magic before him, but Gideon recognized the stench of demonic essence that flowed to destroy the prison. It spoke even as old habits kicked in, the former Warlord grasping the rusted bastard sword from its place upon the stone floor, but his mysterious savior displayed no intent for harm.

Instead, it spoke of a coming threat. Of Darkbeasts, whatever such beings were, that were coming for him. Echoes that belonged to no man declared the truth of this statement, and thus the old warrior nodded at his savior with the familiar calm that had taken him.

His motions were easy, practiced, hands finding their way to the walls and stone rises where three more ancient weapons lay exactly where he had left them, taking them from their homes to once more rest upon his person. The dagger, fitted into the groove of his armoured side, the maul, straining against the old holsters on his back, and the battleaxe, grasped firmly in his left hand beside the bastard sword in his right.

Gideon stepped forth, deeper into the light as if it were the embrace of an old friend, a swarm of feelings rising up within his ethereal gut. Not least of which a thought that breached his calm, his sensations, his moment; was this the end of his purgatory, or perhaps only the next stage?

He stepped over the remains of the wall, rubble crunching beneath his heavy greaves, and after a short moment turned his white-glowing gaze to the Unhallowed savior. Questions, there were plenty of questions, far more than he had ever expected to have again, but one stood out. One crawled up through his ancient bones and, with great difficulty, forced their way out in that ghastly, croaked whisper that he could barely stomach.

" How... Long...? "
I am Inferi.

Gideon's Tomb

He took some time to realize the next phase of his existence. The entity levitated backwards a little, allowing Gideon to stand in the beaming sunlight, and outside, could see trees and plants growing amidst ruins. There was an old aqueduct, broken, leaking water out its front. Gideon spoke his first two words since leaving his stony bed. The entity paused, putting one hand under his chin and tilting his head.

“Hmm, I'd say almost two hundred years since your forces killed me and my family, then destroyed my town, during your vengeful retreat from the... reinforcements. But it turned out to be a good thing; who knows what me and my demonic family would have done in life? With my family and life gone, in death, I could unlock the secrets of my bloodline, and this revelation came from Morpheus, God of Dreams, who showed me everything I needed to know. In life, there is so much suffering and hatred, but in death, everything is so... peacefully nullified.” the entity replied, then his levitation ended, feet tapping against the floor, then took a few steps closer to Gideon, and also looked out the window frame, seeing a few birds chirping, water flowing out the broken aqueduct, and the overgrown ruins. Gideon just stared at the scenery, recollecting how all these ruins used to be so much more...

“The kingdom you waged war upon has since been torn asunder by a great rift, splitting it in two, furthering the destruction you gave it, and delivering its death knell it could never recover. The kingdom is now called the Divided City, but is actually an immense series of multiple ruined cities, walls, towers, aqueducts, and temples, overrun with criminals, devils, and beast-folk.” the entity explained, then crossed his arms, each hand holding a curved, serrated blade with the blade downwards from the hand that Gideon may not have noticed. The being looked down the chamber, and another burst of shrieking and howling sounded, the echoes louder.

“Well, as for the Darkbeasts... they are shadowy beings from the netherworld, ethereal black shells holding in a glowing white soul, creatures who crave power and hunger for magic: what they could never achieve in life. The Darkbeasts learned of men like us, so they seek to find Scions, to devour their souls, which strengthens the sorcery of the Darkbeasts. It may surprise you, that the Unhallowed such as us, we have souls with power amplified in death, curiously enough.” the entity explained.

Gideon turned his head a little, and noticed that this entity—judging by the shape of his skull, which possessed a slight muzzle—was not human in life, but something more... animal, yet demonic, alluding to his kakomancy. Although the Unhallowed demonic being did not give an exact date, had nearly two hundred years already passed? Time flies. Gideon overheard aggressive footfall and heavy breathing echoing.

The Warlord then noticed something outside, amidst the scenery. The very air darkened, as if nightfall arrived in a decent-sized area, and he saw this:

The being just stood there, staring back without blinking. Gideon then noticed that the air all around him began darkening; even though sunlight still shone, not even the sunlight could illuminate this odd darkness.

“They come, prepare to fight.” the entity warned, stepping to the side. Gideon heard breathing here and there within the darkness that darkened the air all around Gideon, forming black and red fog as well, and had a hunch that these beasts would attack via jumping out the darkness. The first Darkbeast he had seen was still outside, standing still...

Sights Gideon had long forgotten assailed him, visions of greenery and life growing amidst the crumbling ruins of what was once a place he called home. To see it all in such a state brought an unexpected sadness, but also a vague sense of relief that he couldn't explain. But still, it was enough. Sunlight, growth, life... It went on without him, as it should, but to see it once more with his own eyes was a strange burden lifted. This kingdom may have been in tatters, but his bloody reign was no apocalyptic war; the world went on.

But what his savior had to say brought forth many more questions that he couldn't even begin to ask. The ringing of two hundred years stuck fast in the mind of the former Warlord, a vague number he could attach to his long imprisonment, an awareness that the world must have long changed in his absence. And, as the entity explained, it had.

So many revelations and few that he could act upon. His savior was no human in life, but a being whom Gideon had slaughtered long ago alongside whatever family he may have possessed. There was no resentment, but regardless it brought a sense of shame to him; an unliving face that experienced his butchery firsthand. He could not begin to apologize, especially not when his savior seemed to consider it a good thing, so instead he continued his stoic silence. However, he felt there was an unspoken understanding at that moment, passed between them for little more than a moment.

Now there were other concerns. No time... Gideon had to remember that, now. He could no longer have all the time he wished, now the world moved around him once again, and these... Darkbeasts, were approaching. Heralded by a preternatural darkness that blotted out the sun, a figure stood outside of the ruins, watching. The former Warlord watched in return, seconds passing before he was forced to turn away to the darkened ruins around him.

His weapons twitched, a familiar eagerness threatening to grasp hold of his will; he did not

allow it. The old bloodlust was a bitter memory now, he was not that man any longer. The calm returned to him, his weapons stilled, and he faced the hall beyond.

" Ever... Forwards... " His ghastly whisper echoed a familiar mantra; one that had taken new meaning. Heavy footfall followed as Gideon Steelwrought, former Warlord, former butcher, stepped free of his ancient tomb and marched forwards to face his newest trials.

Miranda "The Raven" Banner

Midnight galloped over the bridge just as the girl cast her flames onto the bridge, causing it to burn. Even though the chase was over, midnight continued to run. "We're safe boy" Miranda said softly as she patted his neck. Midnight slow led down to a walk, panting heavily. As midnight walked, the effects of the day began to weigh on Miranda. She looked back thinking she heard the girl say somethjng but everything started to fade together. Miranda lost consciousness and began to lean over, eventually Fallon off the horse.

Even though she was out, she appeared to be awake. In a dream world? Miranda did not know. "Hello" she called out. Her lips did not move, but she could hear her voice echo. Looking around, she spotted a beast talking to someone else who she did not know. "Miranda" she said softly to the beast as it asked her name. She reached up and placed her hands in her head. The pain was overwhelming. "Not so loud" she called out as she dropped to her knee, still griping her head. "Where am I? Am I dead?"

Poca

Making camp and keeping an eye out, Poca waited a little while, patiently, wondering why Miranda suddenly fell unconscious. A raven was perched nearby on a tree branch, cocking his head once in a while.

Then, she noticed something rather eerie. Despite daytime, the air began to darken, as if nighttime, even with sunlight shining down upon it. The darkness also produced black fog and a little reddish fog, the fog so thick, no light could shine through it. She stood and looked to the side, and saw:

The creature just stood there, big white shiny eyes gazing at her, and blackness refracting from the sunlight away from the creature's face. The darkness grew, and the creature looked down, staring at the unconscious Miranda...

Analee and Miranda

“I am Ikelos, Semblance of Dreams and Deity of Nightmares, one of the Oneiroi.” the dragon replied. Although he was quite huge, his rather small antlers, avian mouth, fox-like tail, bright scales, and overall gentle appearance did not make him look frightening, especially considering he was a god of nightmares. He looked too gentle to be a scary nightmare, but looks can be deceiving as they say.

“The Scions are the descendants of those who created sorcery, where all magic grew forth. Now that you have spoken to me, I can sense you are not a dream, you are real, as you are... lying on the ground elsewhere, and a little lady watches over your sleeping body.” Ikelos, the dragon, continued, and nodded, then noticed someone else, and asked who this second person was.

Miranda, not being a psionic, could not handle the power of the dragon, and she fell to her knee, in pain. Ikelos paused, wondering what happened, and then...

“Oh? Right, forgive me, I shall calm down...” Ikelos replied rather slowly, his booming telepathy diminishing to a whisper, which did not cause Miranda's brain to bounce. Miranda asked where she was.

“No, you are not dead, you are in my domain, a region of the netherworld. It is difficult to explain, but for you, my domain is like a dream for you, but for me, your world is like a dream for me. It's been so long since Scions gave me a visit, but this must be important...” the dragon spoke, then he slowly stood up, and stretched like a cat, bristles protracting and sticking out, and he made a big rude yawn. Stretching and yawning finished, she sat back down, front legs down on the flooring and upright. He seemed to smile.

“I am glad neither of you are afraid, but I don't look too frightening, don't I?” Ikelos asked, keeping his telepathy gentle and smooth. “But... I dreamt of both of you, not too long ago, methinks. This must be important yet not coincidental, for our dreams to connect, something very significant indeed... Perhaps, your ancestors, the creators of sorcery, had also formed magic for their descendants to meet? I do sense great turmoil in the netherworld and in your world, but my domain is cut-off from the rest of it.” Ikelos continued, and then the auroras flowed and waved to and fro, of many different colours, and possessing the appearance of flames, water, fog, electricity, dust, rain, starlight, and other strange patterns and shapes, though these sources did nothing.

“Magic survives through dreams, I am the Semblance of Dreams. I have seen your visions, Analee of the Woodland Elves and Miranda, I sense you both are Scions, who will struggle in a terrible fate, so... let me help you.” Ikelos said, then raised his arms a little, and then all the auroras glowed magnificently, shining so brightly, the blackness of space was no more. “Feel the magic flow through your bodies, for indeed, all magic is my domain. Let me improve your existing magical discipline, or allow me to imbue you with another...” the dragon continued, and then the two women could feel magic, and understand it, as if the magic flowed with their thoughts. All they had to do, was think about what they desired...

Wolfpack,

Miranda and Analee each have gained one extra point for Supernatural Abilities; both can either improve an existing magical ability, or gain a new one. You can also create new magic if you wish.

Gideon

How eerie it must have been, to lived a life when everything was so different, so long ago, and despite the chaos, indeed, life moved forwards. He had many thoughts swirling in his spiritual mind. Whatever purgatory this was, well, he had to go beyond good and evil. Now, it was time to fight.

“Let's go.” the being agreed, and the two walked down the hallway, heading for the end.

This was when they both heard deep snarling, and something quite big appeared, jumping through the doorway. It looked like the Darkbeast outside, but this one was perhaps ten feet tall, walked on all fours, and had a big head with a muzzle and large jaws, and long curved claws at the hands and feet. Several silhouettes of typical Darkbeasts began forming behind the larger one. The beast growled, snapping its teeth together, then it stopped, rear legs scraping against the floor.
