You're welcome. Hehe, it's such a stereotypical thing for old people to do, discuss the war. I once had this bloke come into my local shop and say: "Brrr, it's windy outside. Still, can't complain, it saved our lives in WWII." I then foolishly asked how, to which I got a lengthy story that was something along the lines of "the wind blew a bomb out of the way and it blew up the neighbour's house instead; we were so grateful to be alive."
The irony in how he was full of praise for survival yet said nothing about the neighbours it supposedly killed.
Hmm, tough call. "Sipping Starbucks" is definitely still one of my favourites, purely for its simplicity yet underlying connotations. Having said that, I think you'd have a fair shot submitting a number of these poems.
I believe you have the capability to conjure a new piece of better quality; it's up to you if you'd prefer to just submit an existing poem. It would be interesting to see a long poem that isn't free verse, but then you have to ensure its quality is consistent throughout its duration.
I have a month to materialize a poem, that should be more than enough time to produce something I'm happy with. If all else fails though, at least I have a few backups. I'll start brainstorming
waow, Great poems Cyun, well done indeed. Of course, I haven't read them all yet, but I read a few, and I'm impressed. You really have a knack for this thing, keep going
Ooh, this thread's got that new poem smell to it. I really liked "Blackberry Bushes". I love reading things that show someone's inner conflict. Not only does it reveal important facets of human nature, but it reminds me that everyone's got some sort of problem. Well done, as always.
I drew inspiration from someone I once knew who had drinking problems, I remember my father trying so hard to talk to him and get help for him. He just wouldn't let him. He was an avid gardener but as he was succumbed by drink his garden grew more overgrown and shabbier every time we tried to visit, I thought it was a good metaphor for his health.
