Aranel noticed Gareth standing off to the side. She saw his wide eyes and realized he must have noticed her ears before she put her hood back up..
"We do, but we stay hidden..hence, you thinking we don't exist."
she was very wary about speaking to this man.
"and you are?"
She looked back at Garrett.
They must know each other, otherwise why would this random man come walking up to talk to him.
The sounds of the battle outside the building grew louder and louder.a

***

Outside the second round of war was waging. The dwarves were short and they were able to hit low, causing barbarians to fall to the ground, but they were also slower than the barbarians due to their short legs and couldn't respond as quickly

Gareth

"You don't hide very well," Gareth observed rather flatly. This wasn't exactly a private setting. Anyone who was paying attention could see that her ears were pointed. "I'm Gareth, one of the city's blacksmiths." Every moment he could delay here in conversation was a moment in which he could justify not carrying more wounded back.

"I do swords as well. My blades are fit for a knight."

" Treat people based on their actions, not scuttlebutt, " Garrett quoted a former captain he'd sailed with in response, leaning his head back to rest against the wall - the pushed it forwards again as he realized that quote might not have made a lot of sense to anyone unfamiliar with sailor talk. " 'Rumours'. Sorry, bit of sailor talk slipping out. " He chuckled, idly following Aranel with his eyes as she moved around. " Won that half of it, at least. The big guy went down with some help, but the fire we made's going out and I'd say around half of those savages are still out there - the Dwarves have shown up to take over the defence. "

Another voice broke in, Garrett turning to see Gareth walking over - apparently having caught the tail end of their talk. His suddenly wide eyes and muttered words went on to prove Aranel hadn't fully hidden her features yet, as now another had learned of who she was. The sailor stood, sparing a glance through the gaps of the nearby boarded-up window to see the battle going on some distance away at the gates, then turned back to the immediate matter before him.

Not that it seemed to be going... TOO badly, at least. Gareth wasn''t falling into Aranel's expectation of prejudice, at least not openly, so that was a good sign. The elf's standoffish suspicion probably didn't help, but that was the way of things. Garrett cut in here just after the blacksmith introduced himself - huh, blacksmith? He handled those weapons well for a smith.

" Gareth helped me out with the big guy, he got the finishing blow, " He explained how they were acquainted concisely, giving a nod to the blacksmith, then grinned. " Don't let the names fool you - ain't any relation between us. "

Name: Joric Ironfist
Age: 30
Gender: Male
Race: Dwarf

Appearance: Joric is four feet tall, with short black hair and thick medium length black hair. His perpetually grinning light-skinned face is marred by a scar running from under his left eye to the bottom of his cheek.

Skills: Joric is a skilled warrior, with both axe and sword. He is quite apt when it comes to weapons, metals, puns, and tactics. Lastly, he is well-travelled, and is familiar with a number of locations.

Weaponry/Armour/Accessories: Joric carries a two-handed adamantine battleaxe, with a steel longsword and a smaller one-handed steel axe as a back-up. He wears a full set of steel plate mail, and a medium helmet topped by a sharp two-inch spike.

History: Joric is a wanderer, a mercenary, and an adventurer. He was originally from Keldagrim, and for five years he was a soldier in the dwarven army, who distinguished himself in multiple cave skirmishes against the trolls, eventually reaching the rank of Lieutenant.

Then a small cave-in destroyed his home, killing his parents and his siblings. He fell into a depression, resigned from the army, and left Keldagrim. He wandered from place to place, unwilling to settle down, seeking out people and creatures to fight. He buried his grief under a facade of optimism and humour.

He was visiting his last remaining kinsman at the mining settlement in Asgarnia when word was received of Falador's call for aid. Some dwarven soldiers were dispatched to assist, and Joric decided to accompany them.

Aranel smirked under her face cloth.
"I am not hiding right now. Look around, does it seem like any of these wounded and dying knights are interested in a conversation? A hushed conversation at that."
Aranel looked between Garrett and Gareth. She felt more comfortable with Garrett. There was something about Gareth that didn't sit right with her. Something about the way he held himself and how he was constantly looking around. She listened as Garrett complimented his skill with the blades. Its not too uncommon for blacksmiths to be trained in combat as they have to frequently test the weapons before they sell them.

Aranel stood up again from the cot, this time wobbling but not falling back down. She moved next to Garrett and looked between two boards in the wall, allowing her to see outside at the battle raging.
I can't help them. I'm not quite strong enough yet.
She let her eyes drift over the dwarves and barbarians fighting outside before a flash of gold caught her eye..
"No.."
Aranel gasped.
"Aureus, why are you fighting?"
She watched him between the boards as long as she could before he disappeared again in the fray.

Aranel backed away from the wall and shook her head in worry. I guess I can try. She pulled her bow off her back and began to walk towards the door. She wobbled slightly as she walk and almost fell , but there was a determination in her eyes. She glanced over at the young girl from earlier, she noticed her listening to their conversation. Aranel did notice the symptoms she was displaying though as magical exhaustion. She remembered the fire that got let loose from her fingers at the start of the battle.
She needs training in her magic, maybe the wizards. Glad she's okay at least.

Once the fire had finish burning, the barbarians let out a war cry and rushed into the city again. However they were having much lower morale than the during the first attack as their leader warlord had fallen. Without leader, they were just charging everywhere without direction.

The dwarven black guards are well trained soldiers. They charged and met the barbarians halfway, resulting in a bloody battle between the barbarians and the dwarves. Aureus did not charge, he stayed back and tried to hack his steel pickaxe at barbarians who were let pass between the dwarves.

Suddenly, a tall onrushing barbarian with a battle-axe and leather shield charged towards Aureus, he prepared his stance and was ready to meet the fighter. The barbarian took a big swing from above Aureus head and tried to overpower him, Aureus met the battle-axe with his pickaxe shaft, instantly breaking it into two. The barbarians let out an arrogant laugh and tried to follow up with a horizontal swing of the shield to hit Aureus in the midriff, but an arrow whizzed past his head to hit the barbarian in the chest, instantly knocking him onto the ground. Aureus raised his leg and kicked the barbarian in the face to fall him, before a dwarf came and put a warhammer to his chest that broke his ribs and stabbed into his heart. The barbarian let out a groan and died after blood gushed out of his mouth.

Wow, not a good idea to be here.
He turned and saw Aranel at the direction where the arrow came from.

Just when the barbarians were gaining the upper hand against the dwarves due to the size difference, a horn sounded loud. Sir Amik can be seen in full white armour leading the charge from within the castle against the remaining barbarians. Beside him were many more white knights in full metal armour charging towards the barbarians. This rallied the dwarves. Together, the white knights and the dwarven black guards successfully pushed the barbarians back and killing many of them.
Here for nostalgia and all the times RS has provided me with boundless imagination and creativity.

Aranel looked at the young girl as she spoke, warning her. Aranel heard a horn sound and hurried to the door, leaning against it as she saw Sir Amik lead a charge to help with the barbarian attack.
Of course he comes out at the end of the battle, when he knows he will win.

Aranel raised her bow and shot an arrow at a barbarian that was coming up on Aureus. The arrow whizzed right past Aureus' head, killing the barbarian before he would do any damage. Aranel still felt a little weak and slid down the door onto the ground, and kept firing off her arrows.

((Yay! Dk! lol))

Gareth

Gareth frowned as he noticed her scrutiny, unsure what he had done to warrant it. Then the girl looked through a hole in the wall, and what she saw seemed to concern her. When she was done, Gareth looked through as well.

"Dwarves!" Gareth remarked cheerfully as he looked through the boards and saw the dwarves fighting off a renewed barbarian onslaught. "Always liked the dwarves," and it was true. But inside he was concerned. The dwarven outpost was not too far from the Kinshra fortress. If they would aid the White Knights against barbarians, they might aid them against the Kinshra as well.

Then he walked through the door. "You can't fight. You should go back inside," he said to the elf as he stepped past her.

-----

Joric Ironfist

A barbarian swung a hammer, only to be blocked by the haft of a dull green axe.

"I need to axe you a question!"

The barbarian's foe, a viciously grinning dwarf, stepped aside, pulling his weapon away to let the hammer fall. The blunt weapon struck the ground next to him. Joric Ironfist grinned, and then swung his weapon upward into the man's groin, before pulling the weapon free as the barbarian cried in agony.

"That was below the belt, sorry." The dwarf gave the barbarian a sympathetic look. Then the grin returned as Joric saw his next foe and moved to engage, shouting out another one-liner in the process.
